Why is there a Knock-out Play-in stage?

This is beyond ridiculous. What a waste if teams can't win their groups in this part you expect them to win a best of 5 against the top teams?

These games have no meaning whatsoever, the top teams from the Play Ins should have been moved to the main tournament period. Riot is getting lazy and uncreative. Adding more games doesn't make it more entertaining, doesn't add meaning, doesn't mean they have a chance in the main tournament.

Either re-think how you are doing it from the ground up. Play-ins...ok sure that works but the rest makes zero sense. None.

The Group play-ins finished 4-0, 4-0, 3-1, 4-1 those are pretty one sided. When I first saw that there were play-ins for this year I was thinking "ok that seems interesting kind-of" but then I found out about the knock out stage of it and it's just like....Riot you took a decent idea and just ruined it.

Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas. I doubt Riot will read and even less that they care what we think but I kind of wanted to get this out.

I think you don't like change. I mean, MSI had the same thing. Unless you were someone who wanted to protect major regions and just have SUP and GAM to fight it out rather than have a double elim bracket; now that right there would be lazy because then it'd just be another IWCI.

Play-Ins make some decent sense actually. No full fledged free rides for favored major regions affected and give minor regions a spotlight that should be shared globally. I don't see much wrong with that as minor region teams actually deserve a chance for themselves to match up against major region teams, regardless of where and how. There will be winners and losers.

This right here tells me you just looked only at the results rather than the actual games. Those were far from one sided...well...actually Group B was a landslide; who am I kidding. But you state that without putting any detail behind the collective outcome of those groups. Each group aside B had at least one team that was basically down and out. Then you had another team that was promising and showed potential. Then you had the major region teams who dominated their grou-oh wait. HKA didn't get 1st. Uhm...yeah. Also that 4-1 counts a tiebreaker.

Why not have a second round? It's more competition and since when has a phase of a League tournament ended off of a Round Robin?

Side note: The only other point I can recall where there was a 3-team group stage round robin was the Desafio Internacional (or IWCQ 2015 - First Qualifier) which only featured Pain, KLG, and Hard Random. Despite Pain looking clearly the best, there was still a Bo5 that played out vs 2nd place KLG resulting in a 3-0 to Pain. Not many people remember that because it wasn't necessarily that mainstream.

Kabraxis is 100% right. We already have our 4 winners from the play-in. We don't need best of 5s yet. The damn group stage hasn't even started.

One of the groups ended up in a tie breaker. That's not one sided by any stretch of the imagination.
If you don't like it, you don't have to watch.

Some teams are stronger in Best of Ones, while other teams excel at Best of Fives.

If a team had their strength in being able to win a Best of Five, then even if they didn't do the best in the group stage they can prove themselves.

I have no problem with this format. Also it gives them more time to iron out the technical issues.

Really I just wish they would have expanded the amount of teams in groups of the actual tournament, rather than having this wonky pre tournament tournament.
