LEC needs format change

What a awful game 1. I couldn't make it through the series. Major misplay after major misplay. The announcers trying to hype the match even though they knew and everyone in the world knew it would not be a close series. It was awful to watch.

The format is miserable. Top two teams play and then get a rematch. Ouch, totally unexciting barring miracles considering how one sided the matchup was the first time.

I really didn't watch LEC this season but since there were no more NA games I decided to check out the rift rivals opposition. I had to do a double take considering that the teams just played each other very recently. I was wondering if there was any possible way that gap could be closed in that short time. After game 1 it was very obvious. What an anticlimactic ending and the format leads to these situations. A change needs to be made

Why does this format lead to such a one-sided final? Origen was not a bad team. They finished 2nd in the regular split (despite a weak start), and they beat Fnatic, the next best team, in a covincing 3-1. Lets say taht origen would've been out after their first defeat against g2 - do you really think the finals would'Ve been any different? Why would fnatic, who got beaten by origen, perform better? Why would any of the teams that fnatic had already beaten, perform better?

The reason that the finals were so one-sided is not because the format is "bad" or anything. It was so one-sided, because G2 simply was that good. I fail to see how a different format would'Ve changed anything - the format had nothing to do with the games being so one-sided.

Being rewarded for a good split by having a second chance in playoffs is a good thing imo. Also, rematches aren't always a one-sided affair; think of fnatic at worlds vs IG. They defeated them twice in a row in group stage, then lost hard in the finals.

And this right here is your biggest problem as to what you saw. If you had cared to watch, you'd have known G2 was stylistically dominant over their opponents all season; just as much dominant as Liquid. Both teams had relatively the same regular season run: crush opponents, make playoff bye, stumble late, resurge playoffs.

If your post is based off of the one game you decided to watch, then I'm sorry but you are most certainly not in any place to say "needs a format change." Perhaps if you had watched the playoffs and yesterday's FNC vs OG match, you'd have believed a little like me that the rematch would be different. But what am I saying? You don't even throw an offer or suggestion let alone care about the LEC. So....why?

The entire LCS format is the problem. Enforced teams lead to stale games, especially when there are so few that they have to invent like eight sub-tournaments to artificially pad the length of their tournaments. We put on a lot better show than LCS players on my side of the pond, and I place a lot of that on the format. Allowing players to decide who they team up with each year makes every year of competition fresh and drives everyone to always be improving. There aren't any guarantees. You earn your teammates every years, and your contract for the year is decided based on how well you've been playing recently, not historically.

The format this year just seemed to me to be an extra series just for the sake of having an extra series.
And yeah, when Origen got smashed 3-0 by G2 just the week before, we knew another smash and lack luster finals was a strong possibility. Yes under the old format we might have gotten that finals anyway. But we wouldn't have seen the same match up be a snooze fest the week before.

There's always the possibility of a curb stomp finals in any format. It goes with the territory. But in this format, we actually had the curb stomp telegraphed the week before and I think it dampened enthusiasm. After Game 1 oh here we go again, after game 2 if enthusiasm and anticipation was the air, by that time we had a blow out and the spare tire was completely deflated too.

Other formats have their problems. There is something I dislike about a gauntlet format like LCK where the #1 team gets rusty for two weeks while everyone else is playing. But I think the LEC format has its own problems.

And before anyone gets butt hurt, nobody is saying Origen didn't deserve the #2 seed (lec) or Griffin didn't deserve #1. (lck) They played the regular season under the same rules as everyone else and earned those seeds. We're talking about problems with the playoff format, not whether Team A deserved Spot X.

what will most likely happen with this format?

.........................................................team B beat team C = boring final rematch A vs B Team A beat team B with a stomp{ .........................................................Team C beat team B with a stomp = hype finals A vs C .........................................................Team C beat team B in close game =boring final A vs C ................................................................................................................................................ .........................................................Team B beat team C = rematch super unfair for team A because it means that if they win nothing change. but if they lose, their win in semi means nothing at all while team B's win means everything ......................................................... Team A beat team B in close game{ .........................................................Team C beat team B in close game = hype final A vs C .........................................................Team C beat team B in stomp = boring final A vs C

the final means a lot, and even if a team is expected to be league's above other, you always have a moderate amount of hope for a nice final, but with this format...

1/6 outcome is really unfair 3/6 outcome tell you the end of finals before it even begins 2/6 outcome give you a slightly better than normal expectation for finals.

and one of these outcome that are fun require that you have 3 teams on top that are of almost same skill lvl with them winning in a certain precice order.
