Can Someone Please Explain LMS to me?

So I noticed that some LMS teams have a "tie" number in their stats. How does this happen/work? Obviously there aren't 5+ games where both teams did the last of the nexus' health at the same exact time so how do they determine these, and why do they exist?

There are ties because the LMS plays on 2 game sets and the stats are decided by whoever wins the set, I think.
