Pain Gaming (Group A) will scrim against LCS EU teams before Worlds

Since we are getting ready to the Worlds, I thought i should put here this news i stumbled into.

According to the news Pain is going to Stockholm, Sweden to scrim against LCS EU and Challenger series teams before heading to France for the group phase. The team will stay in the famous LAN House Inferno Online and among the rumored teams are Dignitas.EU e Gambit Gaming, though nothing is confirmed yet.

They also said they considered going to South Korea, but decided for EU because of the limited amount of time.

Honestly i think it is great to see that being in the Worlds gave them the opportunity to do this kind of investment and get more international experience, even if they end 0-6 (i am hoping for them to make third though, or even second, for the meltdowns)

Do you think this is good? is this going to help them? Do you think it was a good decision to go EU instead of SK? It seems going SK would consume up to 4 days, besides having to deal with environmental and time zone changes.

It's always good to get as much practice in as you can before major events, that's undeniable. However, I'm concerned about the choice of people they will be scrimming against (Allegedly, point acknowledged since it's just rumors and I'm taking this at face value). Pain is with the #2 LMS team, 2nd seed KR seed, and the #1 NA seed in group A. While that may be the only group without an LPL team, which is in my opinion the strongest region overall, this is still very difficult competition. Scrimming against EU CS teams may harm more than help, since Dig.eu and Gambit are vastly different from the fierce competition of the teams in their group.

Gambit has the best/2nd best mechanically ADC in EU and a top 5/6 in the West in forg1ven, an above average top, sup and jungle for western standards in Cabo/Diamond/GoSu pepper, and they were actually going for playoffs if they haven't troubles in the first weeks on the split (theyir org screw up training cause bring them together at last second) and in the final week with forg1ven suspension with no proper replacement found as 4th or 5th seeded team...and imho, they would have had chances in the gauntlet

Tbh, Gambit are a very very good training partner except for mid lane where Betsy is a kinda weak player

Yes, GMB has some great players on their team, but that's not my point. Not once did I say contrary to that.

My point is that Gambit is still an EU team, and Pain is not in a group with an EU team. Learning to play against EU teams may be pointless for them as they are going up against NA, KR, and LMS teams. It may help them promote their mechanical skill levels of the players, but it wont prepare them for the styles that they will be playing against.

I'd argue Gambit is not your typical EU team, though They are considerably more aggressive and focused on winning match-up in lanes and snowball through it than the avergae EU team - namely wait for your team comp power spike to start making plays - because of the nature of their own players (except Betsy, of course) who are all naturally aggressive

Play vs Gambit is not like playing vs standard EU team, H2k odoamne mentioned how train vs Gambit was different than training vs standard EU teams

And what was the alternatives? Playing vs inferior team in KR (see responses in the thread) or LMS? Play in NA vs team of dimilar/slighlty lower level but then going through the jetlag and lifestyle adaptations when going to Europe for worlds? Play in Europe vs team with mixed styles including Gambit remains the best thing to do

What is scrimming EU teams going to do? The 4-9 seeds are all awfull

They weren't going to scrim teams that were better than EU LCS caliber team if they were going to Korea, to be honest. Top teams from the other regions (KR, CH, NA, EU, LMS) would be interested in scrimming each other, and they would have been forced to scrim teams that are in korean challenger tryng to get in LCK or very bottom of the table LCK team, all of this while going lot of troubles like language, different environment, etc that would have distracted them from training...and now they'll have also more time to get used to Europe lifestyle and timezone which is where Worlds will be held

They have doing what is actually the current best choice for them, as EU LCS is still a step up from their domestic competition and the best possible competition they could actually reach

P.S. i always laugh at NA fanboys talking shit about EU LCS when NA LCS overall level at middle and bottom of the table is considerably worse

well if they are realistic they know it´s already an incredible success for them if they make it out of groups - and i think scrimming against the likes of Gambit works well as preparation for CLG. Also...if they come here early they will have adapted to Europe well enough to not have that worry when worlds start.
