Flaws of the Worlds Group Pool System

I enjoy Thooorin and try to watch all of his videos, but he's not exactly right this time. He is right that there is a flaw in the current system I will give him that. But he says he is going to create a system without seeding, then proceeds to sort the pools with basically his seeding. He seeds the top Korea and china team at 1 and the 2nd place teams of those regions in pool 2. While most would agree these teams are better than the western teams, we can't really know unless they play each other which is what World's is supposed to do. Hell, he even puts TSM who lost to CLG in a higher seed/pool than CLG.

I would like the western teams to stomp a few of these eastern teams, not just for underdogging, or homerism, but to put an end to this bias that eastern is always better than western teams. There are several eastern players on western teams already and that doesn't translate into auto-wins. At this point it seems like Thooorin and Monte are already crowning Skt and anyone from NA or Europe or even anyone not from China or Korea should just stay home. Thooorin and Monte would just fill the 16 teams with LCK and LPL teams. That being said, a team from china or a team from korea will almost certainly win worlds this year, not because of the way the pools are set up but because they are the best team.

Thorin's idea is not any better. Riot's is fair. NFL works on the same principle. There are teams that win their divisions going 8-8, make it in the play-offs, and teams that go 10-6 in the stronger divisions not even making it to the play-offs because there was a better team in their division.

And those teams even face each other, compared to just guessing like Thorin wants to do.

You cant just say the 3rd Korean team is just straight better than Western teams. You just cant. There is a lot of Bias there. While Riot's system may not be perfect, its fair. Just like the NFL's system, which is far more established than Esports. If you wanted a first seed, maybe you should have stepped up in your region.

There is no impact. Worlds is not there for Korean teams only. Worlds is there so that the best teams in each region, have the chance to face each other. Therefore, giving the first seeds from each region priority, allows that.

People can hate on it all they want, but its the most fair system.

There is no flaw. A flawed system, is one that allows complete bias just becuase you think a region is stronger. Just because the best team in the world plays in a specific region, does not mean you get to put all the teams in that region above everyone else because you think the belong there. Its worlds; not LCK. The only flaw, IMO, is the fact teams get eliminated before they get to play a best of 5. IF there is one change to the system, its groups giving seeds for a bo5 tournament, because its obvious by now that bo5's are different beasts and teams show up far better in those. Korean teams can go right through groups, FNatic can go right through LCS, without dropping a game. And then they almost always drop a game or 2 in bo5s. So, if there is one fix, its that almost every team, or every team, is seeded into a bo5 tournament based on their performance in groups. Instead of it just being the top 2.
