How cloud9 lost

For me personally cloud9 getting kicked out of groups was a giant disappointment. Personally it feels like the individual players did fairly well and it never really felt like they where out classed individually. How ever i feel like their losses came from the fact that their drafts/pickban was a joke. I seriously don't know what was going though reapereds mind this worlds. Your average gold clash team has a better draft than this. So im going to pick apart how i believe it failed and why i think this is a really stupid over sight. Again this is my personal point of view so feel free to flame if you have a different opinion. 1: Blaber I have nothing against blaber personally but hes just clearly not a worlds caliber jungler. Putting him in right away in game 1 against griffin when you REALLY need a win even though statistically sven i is all around better made 0 sense. The last game putting him in i understand, if you're already kicked out why not let the guy have some game time. But in a do or die moment against one of Korea's best is NOT the time to try your sub. Against HKA? maybe but griffin is not some weak team you can just do what ever you want with. 2: Not banning yumi: After BARELY scraping out a win in a game that took 2 barons an elder and an early game lead against this disgusting comp one would think you would not let the cat through, but nope. The cat gets through again and throws away another game where they had an early lead and had sneaky been on an adc and banned yumi they might have won, might as its hypothetical they could have still lost but the odds would have been better. 3: Horrible draft: I feel like this one is self explanatory but ill elaborate: In the game where cloud9 picked sona and kench, Taric was still avalible. Sona taric synergize and are a duo for a reason- they compliment each other very well and other combos just don't work as well. Its like going garen janna instead of garen yumi it just isn't the same. Even the casters where questioning this one before it even started. Kench is the thing you pick for sona with taric is picked or banned away. Its the step down, the Walmart brand duo. Why would you WILLINGLY pick it when taric was available? They had a good early lead but could not close it or snowball due to carries getting picked off. With tarics better healing, shielding, stuns for peel, and ult for teamfights i really think that game would have gone the other way, kench was just a bad decision all around. Continuing the trend of horrible drafting: Putting licorice on shen was the worst possible move. This man has made a name for his ability to play carry champions. He isn't a budget impact that can just be thrown on maokai duty or something. This man made a god like 3v1 renekton play just a few days prior and even in losses looked pretty good on things like fiora. Putting him on a tank was a mistake, a mistake that was compounded by the rest of the draft. Having kayle and kaisa is all good and well they have amazing late game. But any silver+ player knows if you have a ton of late power you need something to help you GET to late game in the first place. That comp needed a carry top to work like renekton or vlad or gangplank, maybe kled or even the NA riven pick, and a jungler for the early game like xin, elise or j4. Moving on from that fiesta we have bot lane. Putting sneaky on heim specifically for the garen yumi match up i don't really have a problem with, but putting him on mages again when its not really nessicairy instead of actual adcs like kaisa cait or xayah or even lucian was another losing factor. Mage bot laners are good yes but you pick them for certian win conditions.

TL;DR I personally believe the majority of c9's short comings where due to the coaching staff this year. Their drafts and choices in pick ban where just terrible. They may have still lost, or won if they had done things better but that's all conjecture. Feel free to flame with your personal opinions, and yes i know cloud9 was unlikely to win the whole thing they would have most likely lost easily to RNG and SKT they look like monsters this year, and they may have still not made it out of groups, but still i expected a better draft than this.

They were a mess

Their performance was the very embodiment of the Clown 9 meme Like Sona instead of a carry was horrible to watch

Letting Akali through was big brained for sure.

This has been in years past and remains C9's fatal flaw more than anything else. I haven't seen teams more consistently determined to throw games at pick/ban than C9 when it counts the most.

I kind of agree with blaber playing the g2 game just because G2 is a better team than C9 and frankly they needed to increase randomness because randomness isn't in the better team's favor when they are expected to win. After that Sven should have been playing.

I think the biggest problem in C9 is sneaky.

When you have a player like that, it means you need someone like blabber because Sven is a roleplayer (damn good one I'll give you that) but Sneaky is really mediocre in creating pressure in the bot lane, so sven can't work around that pressure because it doesn't exist, so they put blabber in with the hope that elise can get 20 ganks off pre 15 mins and get them ahead enough to win the game.

And I am not talking only about worlds, I am talking about LCS too.
