Why won't esports notifications stay suppressed?

I hate Esports so much and I don't want anything to do with it. So I go to my options and select the "Suppress Esports Notification Popups" preference. Except it doesn't do that...it unchecks itself everytime I log back into the game....WHY?!?!? Is it because the client is broken or does Riot do this on purpose for bonus advertising?
