Group A of worlds is so difficult. I am a C9 fan and I know for a fact that all three teams can beat C9 easily except maybe AHQ. EDG and SKT will easily be the two getting into the knockout stages. RIP C9

Why are you giving EDG so much of a chance? They do this every year just like TSM and flop at Worlds. I'd say C9 has just as good of a shot as EDG of leaving that group. The only given is that SKT is getting out unless their starting lineup all contracts some crazy illness. It should be a very competitive group overall.

because this year they will be smart and sub out mouse, play around top lane, and let chawy play instead of westdoor and they are almost up to par with skt.

I mean, I'd give the edge (pardon the pun) to EDG over C9, but EDG is one of those teams.

I wouldn't. I'd actually say C9 is the 2nd strongest team in that group. OP doesn't know shit.

I must agree. on paper EDG is much better but world records C9 tend to play more with heart and usually do win couple of group stage games and sometimes even make it out.

EDG flops at Worlds but start from a much higher level of expectations than what Western teams do and generally perform better than the majority of them Last year they "flopped" because they were thought to be top 3 while they were "only" the 6th best team in the tournament, S5 they "flopped" because they were considerd top 2-3 and performed badly still ending up as 6th or 7th best team, being beaten badly, but by number 1 and 4 in power rankings (and final World standings), S4 they didn't even truly underperform at all as they performed well in their QF vs the 3rd best teams at those Worlds and Worlds finalist SHRC (the series between those teams were always close thorughout that season)

TSM flops have been much much worse historically, and while C) breezed through play-in, they should be considered rightfully at far lower level than them

Despite EDG underperforming in their World campaigns, there have not been so far a single Worlds edition in which EDG played in where C9 (or really any NA team) could have been ranked above EDG.

I don't see how a not peak version C9 of should be considered on par with EDG

They shouldn't be. The point is you can't really look at past performances at worlds and say "based on this EDG is the superior team". You can take how well they played this season and say that makes them superior or inferior to C9, but using past performances at worlds as a basis for success or failure for any team not named SKT is a pointless endeavor.

Sure, but we know for sure that C9 has being nowhere near as spectacular this season too. They were quite a level below TSM and IMT in NA LCS, and there hasn't been really any shake-up in the lineup so that you can hope they will magically improve by a notch

They looked good in the play-ins, so C9 fans can hope they can put up a battle and maybe upset some teams and do a miracle run if someone underperform, but it should be clear to anyone that EDG is the favorite to get through as 2nd seed being the number 1 seed from China (playing with home crowd support). Even though EDG historically underperformed compared to the expectations (which was the point of the other guys in the comment chain), they never really choked THAT badly that they lost to teams that were SO inferior in the rankings, they lost any time to top 5 teams at that Worlds competitions,

Basically they have to pray that SKT and EDG don't split, be able to sweep AHQ, and steal a game off one of the two top teams, and still hope AHQ is good enough to steal a game as well.

Doesn't seem likely.

Why do they need to pray anything? The only team guaranteed to leave that group is pretty much SKT. EDG and AHQ do not have a good track record at all at worlds.

Let's be honest here, while Group A is tough with juggernauts like SKT and EDG and the always surprising AHQ, it IS EDG after all, the same team that can barely make it out of groups year after year, only to get dunked easily in the first round of Worlds 3 years straight. AHQ isn't all that impressive, the only decent player on AHQ is Ziv(Top) and for EDG it's the complete opposite, EDG's problem is their top laner.
The much improved C9 botlane should do well against the middle of the pack botlanes like AHQ and EDG, as well as Impact should be able to beat EDG's top, since Clearlove and EDG always seems to let top be on an island year in and year out, only to get destroyed like always. Mouse has been the problem for EDG for some time now and I don't see him doing much against All-star calibur players like Impact/Huni or Ziv( all n all 1 EDG lane useless). Clearlove AKA IWD, will gank a lane early and if that gank doens't work, he tends to power farm for 40 mins with no further ganks for that such lane.
EDG is good but not that good anymore and same can be said about AHQ.

You don't know that for a fact. The only thing in worlds that is ever consistent is that SKT wins their group and proceeds on to win the entire tournament, everything else is subject to change. These regions hardly ever play each other and there is not really any past evidence to say that a Chinese team will stomp anybody else by default. We'll just have to wait and see.
