Patch 5.22 notes

You've survived the patch notes.

You've read the dev blogs.

We're going to be chilling in the dev corner this week to talk about any of the preseason changes coming in the patch. Hopefully by tomorrow you'll also have a few games under your belt.

Also: you're not here to pose opinions as questions.

Why did you increase the cost of almost every single AP item?

Hellioning11/10/2015, 9:05:31 PM6 votes

Why didn't Cass get mana buffs?

Ahh... The preseason, the time of the year to get funky and relearn league as we know it.

For me this means trying my hardest to get Mordekaiser working Solo as best as I can. And behold, instead of change to the champion there are actually some changes benefitting the Murder Emperor.

Runic Armor 8% bonus to shields and healing? Sign me up! Do I hear the feint echo of "Huehuehue Always shield never die"?

Hextech Gunblade Welp, since Trinity force has officially become way too gimpy for Morde we might see the return of Gunblade, seeing that he scales rather well with its AD and AP. And the sweet, sweet 15% heal to ANY damage dealt is delectable.

But there are also some things that already make my skin crawl; Bot lane will be Hell for Morde (But hey, I never liked him there anyways XD) with the reworked Marksmen having ways to deal with Morde quite easily. Be it Graves bursting the tin can and counter pushing him into oblivion Cait holding the guy hostage for 20 minutes Koggy recycling the metal man from a distance Corki making him question his own niche as magic damage bot laner and so on.

I'll be keeping an eye on how things will unfold, it'll be very interesting to say the least.

How do you think these indirect changes will affect the (former) Master of Metal, The Iron Revenant, The HueKaiser?

Edit Numero Uno; Thoughts on maybe allowing Morde to enslave the Rift Herald?^^

Edit Numero Dos; I skimped through the preseason subsection about empowered AA's and Morde's Q wasn't listed. Does this mean Blinds and such won't affect his (M)Ace of spades?

I want to talk about the changes to minions; they scare me. What worries me is that the subtle and interesting mini game of wave control will be damaged or worst case destroyed.

It's a fascinating and subtle thing to control the minion waves, and when done successful you can set up freezes to deny CS to enemy, or make large waves that damage side lanes as you do objectives. What worries me is that the changes to minions, make them auto push which makes setting up pushes and doing freezes much harder to control.

What is the intent behind the changes, and what is your thoughts about wave manipulation and the new system?

Could I please ask you for something important to me? Why Riot decided to force one specific team composition? Why there can be only one jungler? Why AD carry must be ranged? I understand that makes the game easier to balance and understand, but its 6 years already. Every change kinda forces players to play in an "imposed" manner.

Does Windspeaker's Blessing work with heimerdinger´s passive? I´m wondering since Heimerdinger is the only one to grant allied champions Health regeneration

Kind of concerned about the minion and tower changes, can you explain the reasoning behind these and what you hope they will accomplish? Also this bail out mechanic just sounds like a bad change...

Jabalor11/10/2015, 9:29:55 PM3 votes

Why remove the passive from Tiamat and only leave it on Hydras?

Jabalor11/11/2015, 1:02:47 AM3 votes

Reading through the minion and turret changes, basically nonstop split pushing ala Tryndamere seems like it could get out of hand pretty fast, any comments on this?

Shroom Junkie11/11/2015, 5:15:31 PM2 votes

Why did you remove the Pink jungle item? That was a popular item that was used a lot, and was my go-to jungle item for the sustain and faster jungle clear. I used it on EVERYONE. Why would you remove it? Put it back please, there was no reason and this will make my jungling a lot more shitty because I'm used to jungling with it.

Is there any way that masteries can be "exportable", something like the itemsets? I dont want to do +10 masteries page for every acc that i own

I have some minor concerns about the new Tracker's Knife for the jungle. Considering the jungler is one of the two members of the team most expected to control vision due to their roaming, and since every lane is now gonna have 2 ward charges by default on their trinket (which makes it trickier to find the unwarded route to gank from), I feel like the Tracker's Knife will become the mandatory jungle item so that you can pick up a red trinket to sweep wards.

Is this at all a concern for the team as well? Or is the expectation that, with the overall number of wards reduced by not being able to buy them anymore, that the red trinket will be overall weaker by enough that the minor smite buffs from Skirmisher's Sabre/Stalker's Blade will actually be able to compete effectively?

It seems like the changes to turrets, gold and minions are going to largely benefit snowballing. In fact, it seems like you made a ton of changes so that the game doesn't go much further than the 30 minute mark, and that if one team gets a good early game, the other has much less chances of coming back. I'm not sure if I'm interpretating this in the right way. But what do you have to say about this? Do you think that the snowball potential is indeed higher? If it gets out of control, how will you counter it - will you remove some of the implemented features? (for instance, the minion damage seems pretty devastating right now - take 3 towers and suddenly every lane is pushing hard by itself)

Not sure if I mentioned it in THIS thread yet or not, but, while I'm not really concerned it's going to ruin the game, I really wonder why pink trinket was removed from the game. I remember Xypherous said something about just not thinking it was needed, but I don't see why it can't be an OPTION.

Also, are you guys at Riot at all concerned that the raw power of Executioner's Calling/Mortal Reminder Is going to marginalize Morellonomicon?

Finally, Deathfire Touch vs. Thunderlord's Decree. For the most part I thought probe were feeling Deathfire is the stronger mastery, so why does Thunderlord's have an internal cooldown but not Deathfire?

Oh... And why don't the flasks turn into cookies/biscuits? (And I refuse to call Hunter's Potion anything other than the Jungle Canteen)

I'm super disappointed that tanks aren't getting any proper love or shiny new toys this preseason. They truly feel like a forgotten subset of the game over the last few months while everything else is trying new and awesome things.

The only thing that left a lasting impression on me was the cindermeta this year. And that wasn't a fun new toy, or an exciting addition to a role. It just sucked because it was a ball of damage that made you guys beat the class back down with the nerfbat because of badly tuned numbers.

I want to see new avenues for something less threatening than an Amumu ult, and much much harder to peel or lock down than a Nasus. I want old Garen back. I want old Udyr back. I want Mundo with some kind of real lockdown in exchange for his overbearing sit-on-you-with-damage dive pattern.

I want a slippery tank who can wade into the enemy team with defensive steroids and low damage, and wade back out with tenacity and movespeed steroids. I don't want to be a juggernaut who races the carry's HP to zero. I want to provide pressure and zoning to enemy carries with my body and presence, and NOT my cc or damage. Garen and Udyr appeal so strongly because Garen could walk in and out with Q mobility and W tenacity and damage reduction, and Udyr could soak so much damage with spammable shields without committing.

I still try to make this fantasy a thing in League, but over the last few months I've lost so many tools for it in item changes. Randuins, Thornmail, and Frozen Heart have each taken sizeable hits to their lategame effectiveness, and the replacements I'm being shown like Gage, Plate, and Titanic are so woefully lacking in defensive stats because they have this worthless damage, or cooldown based utility attached. I can't go anywhere anytime with those items, and my old standbys are rusting, especially considering all the new tools for ADCs to eat me with.

I understand that the mobility and survivability I demand for my fantasy playstyle will come with tradeoffs. I'm prepared to do limited damage and forego powerful hardCC. I loved the old Garen, running around, regenning, and throwing an impactful silence now and then. I wish there were an option for me in this game.

Are you gonna do something about the state of Assassins or will they stay useless for all eternity? Surely you must've realized that the countless nerfs, releases of anti-Assassin champions and itemization changes makes them pretty much unplayable.

How you plan to deal with Rift Herald and it's buffs if it shows extremely powerful in competitive play, especially in lane swap situations? -Radovan
