Runes Corner: Three More Resolve Runes

Riotgregab··1 votes·77,341 views

Hello and welcome back for another Rune’s Corner! I’m Riot Gregab, a Tech Game Designer working on Runes Reforged. Today I want to show you a slot from the Resolve path that offers you three different strategic options around tankiness: Perseverance, Demolish, and Font of Life.

WIP DISCLAIMER: All of these runes are still in active development. Names, numbers, icons, mechanics -- anything about them might change before release.

The first option in this slot gives you personal defenses during key moments of conflict:

 Perseverance
https://i.imgur.com/WobHKN1.pngAfter casting a Summoner Spell, gain 25% Tenacity and 25% Slow Resistance for 10 seconds. Increase your bonus Armor and Magic resist by 10% for each Summoner Spell on cooldown.

Taking Perseverance could give you the critical edge in a 1v1 duel or make sure you stay alive and functional in a team fight where you’re eating a lot of damage and crowd control effects.

The next option, Demolish, on the other hand, gives you a way to turn your existing tankiness into power for taking objectives:

 Demolish
https://i.imgur.com/Of4c0ca.pngCharge up a powerful attack against a tower over 4 seconds, while within 600 range of it. The charged attack deals 375 (+20% of your max health) bonus physical damage.
Cooldown: 60 seconds

Demolish gives tanks a way to siege turrets that is based on their unique strengths: the ability to walk right up to a turret and occupy that critical (and very dangerous) area with their massive bodies. Here’s what it looks like in action:

https://i.imgur.com/1cVAMsD.gif

The final option in the slot lets tanky champions use their signature crowd control abilities and massive health bars to help their teams in fights.

 Font of Life
https://i.imgur.com/0nKAfRb.pngImpairing the movement of an enemy champion marks them for 4 seconds. Ally champions who attack marked enemies heal for 5 + 1.0% of your max health.
(Healing values are reduced to a third for your own attacks.)

https://i.imgur.com/s2xG4pY.gif

Now, this may sound familiar. It’s an iteration on the live keystone mastery, Stoneborn Pact. The key differences here are that Font of Life offers an instant heal instead of spreading out its heal over time and that, unlike its predecessor, Font of Life users can also heal themselves with it.

Ok! Hope you enjoyed reading about these new Resolve runes. We’ll be around in the comments to answer your questions and discuss them with you.

Reduce the CD on Ohmwrecker so I can just come out of the jungle or leave my lane every 90 seconds to knock on the nearest undefended turret with Demolish :3

Only problem with Font of Life is that it only really synergizes with marksmen / on-hit based champions. I understand all runes and stuff have niches but I don't think marksmen need more powers like that. I do like the mastery though in theory, CC = heals for team, I just wish the heals weren't so tied to one class.

I like perseverance, very interesting.

I like the thought behind Demolish, much like how I like new Rift Herald. My only problem with it is that towers are already useless and this mastery will make them more useless. If there's a plan to deal with towers being paper towels than I'm all up for this mastery, otherwise considering the current state of towers this mastery makes me kinda sad.

But it's the exact same as the current stoneborn pact... just with self healing in exchange for the bonus health it used to give. So it isn't really any more power than before, it's the same bonus adc are enjoying when coupled with a tank support right now.

JarPoop IV1 votes

The font of life might be actually a little better in the sense that the healing is instant and there is no split between melee and ranged. And it's not a keystone.imagine this shit with other tank support keystones. Adcs will definitely enjoy more

Susskind1 votes

Not sure if you saw one of the other posts which mentioned this, but Pact healing is already front loaded to heal 40% of the value instantly which is 1% max hp + 5 same as Font of Life. We've yet to see if there will be a split between melee/ranged on font, but I imagine there will be.

JarPoop IV1 votes

Is it? Seems weird that it's not stated in the tooltip. So in that case this is kind of a nerf so that it won't be a keystone level in terms of power? Would still be good on tanks with decent attack speed tho.

This plus grasp. Hmm seems like nice healing on tank junglers

Susskind2 votes

I think this tooltip being misleading is the main reason people don't realize pacts current power. With Font, the healing for the tank is rather negligible; you'd need a fat health pool and fast attack speed for a small reward. Good design on riot's part though, this is still intended for support/support tanks after all.

Votable Jester6 votes

A heal over time makes it so it doesn't matter how fast you attack the target. Making the heal instant means that attacking twice as often means you heal for twice as much.

DestinyDude4 votes

Bond of Stone already healed on hit

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/5vzrb6/224_pbe_update/de6hxml/

The heal over time effect doesn't stack, but it does front load a portion of it on activation. Currently it's tuned at 40% front loading, which means whenever you hit a target with the rune, you instantly heal 1% of the Bond of Stone user's maximum health, and then continue healing 1.5% of the user's maximum health as the HoT ticks down.

Susskind2 votes

Yeah I'm having a hard time seeing how this isn't an indirect nerf for current users of Pact. Font of life is basically the current 40% front loaded value of pact (1% of max life + 5) except now you can also benefit by hitting your CC'd target. As a tank support I'd rather keep both the 1% on hit and 1.5% HoT for whoever is attacking the target.

Why take away part of the healing and give it to the support? Riot?

dreadnoughtus016 votes

Nerf? How is this is a nerf, this is a rune not a keystone. So while it's slightly weaker, it's still going to be coupled with a stronger mastery (Gaurdian Soul or the other Keystone that hasn't been revealed for Resolve).

Steelflame3 votes

It is a nerf, but a fair one because Stoneborn Pact/Font of Life itself is no longer going to occupy the Keystone space in the Resolve tree.

Also, I'd honestly say Stoneborn Pact is quite possibly overpowered, just very under-appreciated because it's impacts don't directly benefit you, and you don't get to see it as much as the heal only is being applied to the carry, who frequently already have Lifesteal by the time the numbers get big enough to notice, so you just assume it's part of their own Lifesteal, and not what BoS is giving them. Its a very hidden impact much like old auras were, especially in laning situations.

I can also see Raka LOVING this if the current Ardent-Stoneborn Pact interaction is preserved in the new rune. This would allow her Q to apply Ardent for her carry, letting her avoid absolutely having to waste her heal to proc it to boost her carry's DPS in situations where the boosted damage output would be nice, even when the carry isn't being actively targeted.

Does Perseverance work with smite?

So I can red summoner 11 and get even more edge over my opponent?

Rathar Dashing9 votes

Furthermore, since smite uses a charge system, does the bonus armor apply when you're at zero charges, or any time you're below full charges?

Riotgregab4 votes

The bonus applies whenever you can't cast smite. When you're at 2 charges of smite and you cast it once, it goes on cooldown for 15 seconds before you can use the second charge. During those 15 seconds you get the buff from Perseverance. Then when it goes off cooldown and the second charge is available to cast you lose the buff until you use that second charge and put it back on cooldown.

Rainfall3 votes

i would not say that preservance is focused for 1v1s more like its designed for tanky junglers and players who run ghost so they dont get kited to death so easily and get better ganks.

Rainfall9 votes

Are there any runes to give mages mana refunds?

RiotSparkle4 votes

Hi! This is an oddly specific question!

Also the tagline for Sorcery at the moment is: Empowered abilities and resource manipulation

Shadow Hazard4 votes

Specific yes but hardly an odd question. There is currently a missing mana regen mastery. It has been my go to mastery on sona since she can still burn through mana pretty fast even if you stack every mana regen item.

Hydro3Bernal9 votes

From the bottom of my heart, as a support main who likes to use non-supports when I get bored, thank you for turning Stoneborn Pact into Font of Life. I can continue healing my adc with MF's bullet rain. :') [sg-lux]

Ahahaha, turrets dangerous? Nice one Riot

SkyblazeHydraX37 votes

Back in Season 3/4, you guys removed the Mastery that gave boons for Summoner Spells being on cooldown. Why did you guys bring it back, albeit in a more generalized form?

Riotgregab4 votes

I think you're referring to Summoner's Wrath? http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Summoner%27s_Wrath_(Season_2012_Mastery)

That gave specific stats based on which summoner spell was on cooldown: armor and mr for exhaust, ms for ghost, ap and ad for ignite, etc. It might be counter-intuitive, but Perseverance is actually less generalized than this. Summoner's Wrath was trying to give the exact stat you already wanted. That basically turned it into a general buff to your summoner spell no matter what it was. Perseverance on the other hand only gives you defenses, albeit two different kinds: Tenacity and Slow Resist for the current emergency (the next 10 seconds) and then armor and mr that last longer. This should make it more specific to tanks or other people who want to increase their survivability in fights.

Poluact3 votes

How does it interact with Teleport? Does it work in the start of casting a spell or when you finish channeling?

A Pink Glaceon3 votes

should finish as soon as the channel as done, as teleport becomes "Cancel" while channeling, and I dont believe it's considered on cooldown then.

Fuck you, stop making turrets useless.

"Hey guys, y'all complaining about turrets being weak? BOOM RIFT HERALD." "Hey guys, y'all complaining about turrets being even weaker now? BOOM CAITLYN CAN HEADSHOT TURRETS. "Hey guys, y'all complaining about turrets being literally useless now? BOOM DEMOLISH FUCK ALL OF YOU."

Then Riot finally buffs turrets and that'll be the 4th meme they ruin in 2017. (ADC's in 2k17, Yorick getting 0 skins, and Urgot existing)

Nebuul5 votes

Is demolish's cooldown on the ability or on the tower? If multiple champions have demolish, is there reduced effectiveness?

LostFr0st2 votes

First off: these look very cool :)

For demolish: is there a way to stop it or is it unstoppable? Is it a dash or just an explosion like Trist E? I'm guessing it's like Rift Herald's dash attack but also wondering if it can be used for towerdives? Lot of questions, sorry^^"

Riotgregab9 votes

Thanks!

Some answers for your questions: The way to stop an opponent from triggering Demolish is to force them away from the turret before the 4 seconds needed to charge it are up. Clear the wave, deal damage to them, threaten them with a CC spell, have an ally move towards the turret, etc. There's no dash involved at all. After they've been there for the full 4 seconds their next attack on the turret deals bonus damage in the model described.

jwebb011311 votes

so with the entire boards crying over how weak turrets currently are you wanna give a rune to help the tanky champs who can tank the turrent damage a easier way to take the turret

seems like you are doing the exact opposite of what the boards have been crying over. that the turrets fall to easy, and are no threat to any one with the less bit of armor or hp.

hmm and then you put this on a NASUS with his ult and Q and turrets just nothing more then a super minion

LostFr0st5 votes

Pretty sure the boards is up and arms about marksman holding the game in their hands. This gives some of that power (sieging) to the tanks if they chose to opt into it, instead of losing lane automatically (possibly through first-tower) and then crossing their fingers that their damage-dealers are awake during teamfights.

jwebb01132 votes

you can take turrets with out adcs...

turrets have been nerfed to shit and you know this.

any type of tankish champ can sustain the turret cuz it little to no threat

now we give tanks a way to take the turret easier with out buffing the turrets

and then the rune that gives you tenacity after using a summoner spell lol so you get the benefit ever 5 mins whats the fukin point

LostFr0st2 votes

However should Nautilus or the like be sieging alone according to his team --- No. (prob not the best idea but at least this leaves the threat of him taking a compensation tower open).

Right now if we have the worse marksman it's very hard to win through taking turrets, and even if the tank wins the 1v1 top they pose no threat whatsoever on their opponent's tower so they basically give them a free pass because they are vs a tank in lane.

Basically, if someone picks a tank right now, they MUST teamfight even if their team is behind, because due to choosing a tank in champ-select they have invalidated the threat of a splitpush from their comp. It makes things boring and stifles people with splitpush play-styles from trying/picking a big subset of the roster.

jwebb01132 votes

there are some champs while tanky can split push effectively

swampert9193 votes

And they might want a different rune... Remember they have to choose this over other options, while the option for more tower pressure exists they are likely to want something that covers their weaknesses instead of pilling onto a single strength (take nasus for example... tanky champion who can split push, but could prob kill a tower faster than this can activate anyway so he can look for options which will benefit him more).

And there are tanky split pushers who are garbage at taking towers, for example sion and vlad... this is something they really can do with.

DeathBurst3 votes

A 60 s CD on Demolish seems really underwhelming. Basically means you'll get the proc only once. The damage value is good, but since it's Physical, the actual value will be much lower. At this rate, a Sheen looks like a better option for a Tank that wants to siege, and keep this Rune Slot for something more generally useful.

Atanchan6 votes

From the looks of it, Demolish is just an empowered autoattack that requires you to be in tower range for a while.

Kowe The Ewok2 votes

Tbh. the whole new rune system does not seem to be thought through. There's so many broken options. Chogath + Demolish is just the latest.

This game is becoming DOTA "Nothing is broken 'cause everything is".

The Cane Master2 votes

Impairing the movement of an enemy champion marks them for 4 seconds. Ally champions who attack marked enemies heal for 5 + 1.0% of your max health.

If this doesn't work on slows I'll delete the game.

RiotSparkle4 votes

Pls no delete, it works on slows right now

Kryonik1 votes

What are your reasons for keeping Precision and Sorcery as Primary only paths. It feels really constricting to have a keystone from the other three and then be stuck with runes from only Inspiration, Resolve, and Domination.

Riotgregab9 votes

You can primary any of the 5 paths. And once you've picked your primary you can secondary any of the 4 other paths.

Hope And Piece3 votes

ya got the wrong picture, any of the five paths can be your primary, and any other path can be your secondary. They are not limited like you said.

also your wording confused me so to clarify further, there are only 2 classifications of runes, keystone or not. among the nots are three slots and you can only pick one of the three in those for your rune tree (three in primary tree and two in secondary)

hope this helps

wait, so Darius isn't gonna have base stats updates like other champion with removal of runes because of perseverance? Because As a Darius adept I don't find this attractive compared to the boots free at 10 min, the CDR cap being added as bonus AD, the tenacity based on legend stack or the gathering the storm one.

Riotgregab4 votes

Have no fear Darius will also have a base stats update like every other champion.
