The Reasons I Don't Go On GP+

I like the concept, but I do have to present some weaknesses I find that make it forgettable for me:

  1. Long-winded OPs Very few brief posts exist on GP+ and, while I understand the desire to have in-depth posts, the GP+ posts feel less like intricate discussions and more like students trying to reach the target word count for essays. This post, for example, brings to light various issues with the sub-board without taking 20 minutes to read.
  2. Pointless comments (That I personally have no power over) Gameplay has a generally toxic community. Most comments are either direct ad hominem (You're bad so you're wrong) or ethos arguments (I'm good so you're wrong). The ones that try to actually comment productively come through only through the votes that other boards members give. GP+ has no downvote, so I have to see these comments all over the place and can't downvote them to oblivion where they belong.
  3. There aren't dissenting opinions in posts GP tends to be a circlejerk (even though it has a point here and there) and, once again, GP+ follows that trend. It just does so in a more classy way. The posts don't present anything new to us that we couldn't already gather from GP. They don't argue any points, which is a vital part of any discussion.
  4. This is a personal pet peeve, but the use of the word "Discussion" in titles The purpose of posting is to start a discussion. YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANNOUNCE IT, DEAR GOD, STOP

Definitely agree on point #1 – I just don't want to reject things because they are long. Unfortunately, people who write great posts and people who are a bit long-winded have quite a bit of overlap.

For point #2, make sure to report those. It is against the rules to spam, generally, and we are trying to be strict about comments there. We may need help to see them, though, so make sure you're helping us with that.

I can see point #3, as well, but not in the same way, I think. I think the bigger problem is that people tend to up/down-vote based on whether or not they agree, so the things that most people agree with still get upvoted a lot. I would prefer if the things that were worth discussion were upvoted, and then more of the disagreement might be visible.

Do you think GP+ would be improved by more strict title curation? It's something I've been cautious about, because I don't want to seem nitpicky, but I do tend to agree with you that the title and the first paragraph have a lot to do with setting the right tone for a post. I prefer titles like yours, that let me know exactly what I'm getting into when I open the thread.

I don't go to Gameplay+ because it feels so censored.

You have to be approved, you can't downvote, and the rules are way more strict.

Virgin Gameplay+ versus Chad Gameplay.

Because GP+ is literally what the mods "deem worthy". It's not "anyone can post but moderation is more strict". You have to be approved to even post.

So you can have a good discussion topic, albeit brief, and they'll be like: "this doesn't match our 'quality'"
