saw a rioter tweet about the boards

I saw a senior champ designer make a harsh tweet (which he deleted within an hour) about the boards and how it's negative and provides no value, essentially bashing the entire board and more importantly just insulting ALL the people use it. Really ignorant of the many players that look up to Rioters and show a ton of passion for the game. With a tiny bit of resolve you can push past the negative and distasteful comments and find many useful ones by people who want to genuinely help improve the game or show their support. Blows my mind how a designer would discard a place where he can get FREE feedback about the quality of the work he is involved with.

I also saw the Tweet, and it's not even worth my time or effort to address all the ways that it was ironic, negative, and hurtful to this community.

Yup. No surprise, though.
Riot - "We're going to ruin the forums and create reddit like boards instead." Nearly everyone that used the forums "Please, don't do that. You have reddit for that? Can we please keep our forum?" Riot - "No. We need to do this so that we have better communication with you guys. Whether you like it or not, it will be better in the long run." Community - "Well... we still don't like it, but if you insist." Riot - creates boards Community - realizes they're garbage and creates a post with thousands of upvotes (that is seemingly gone now) saying boards are garbage Riot - "Damn. They were right. These boards are trash. Oh well. Let's just go talk shit about them on twitter." Lol.

Funny that a Rioter doesn't like the boards. Funny in the sense that people are angry at Riot and this is someone the only realization.

The only sad thing is that the Rioter did not try to figure out why people were mad.

Negativity is caused because of the state of the game, maybe if they actually listened, there would be less negativity.

Tbh, I can't blame him.

The boards are a shithole, filled with false information, blatant lies, ignorance, hateful speech, and sheer stupidity.

Sure, it's not all bad. But it's hard to enjoy a bowl of M&Ms when 95% of them have the chocolate inside replaced with literal shit, just as it's hard to enjoy the boards when 95% of the posts are full of shit (both in content and in truth).

You can't take it seriously when many posts are saying winrate doesn't matter at all, or when every other post is bitching about a champion that hasn't been meta for years, or when the users deliberately hide facts just because they don't like them.

And when a Rioter can't come to the boards and give insight on anything without being bombarded about irrelevant crap and being personally attacked...

Can you really blame him?

There's so little quality here. There's so little worth here. Yeah, you can get free feedback, but when that feedback is constantly contradicting itself and is usually based on false information to begin with, you really can't use it.

As someone who's a large believer of the saying "If it's true, why should I care?"...

If it's true, why should I care? You make it seem as if Boards is an objectively positive source of information.

Fun fact: It's not.

You will always see negativity vastly outnumber anything productive. You will always see selfish statements filling threads while anything that makes sense is downcast to oblivion because of this irrelevant voting system. You won't see well thought-out, well-informed, well-experienced statements, and if you do they're drowned within the chaff of nonsense, toxicity, selfishness, and what have.

This is a statement coming from someone fresh off a trending thread full of wikipedia citation about patches when there literally is a patch notes page that proves them entirely wrong.

So, a Rioter said boards is shit? Guess what? Boards is shit.

These boards are pretty toxic and we need to change as a community..

OneMustFall12/2/2018, 4:55:19 PM9 votes

And that tweet was 100% accurate. Almost 90% of the topics made on the boards are toxic garbage. I got no problem with someone speaking the truth about the community.

Some people act like babies and can't take criticism.

Pika Fox12/2/2018, 7:24:55 PM8 votes

Have you been here often? The place is a shithole with little to no valid substance other than circle jerking about some new thing that is a non issue.

S0lShadows12/2/2018, 11:49:23 PM8 votes

I really dont blame him. Most of the stuff I see posted on these boards are just so bad or wrong I cant help but laugh. Rarely do I see a post that`s actually of value.

Boards or forums are majority negative. People who don't like the current state of the game are the more vocal on the forum. This is why most developers should stick to metrics and less so on the forum. Except maybe on skin designs. I think the feed back on skin designs is good. For game mechanics people complain too much in any game forum. I think random surveys are better for getting a better understanding of what the gaming population on the whole would prefer.

Every forum I been in has been negative. For example, when democrats control the majority of the government republicans make many threads in political forums and when republicans have the majority of power, then it's democrats complaining day in and day out. It's no different on gaming forums. In OW, people are always complaining about a hero that either counters their main or mains.

Gotta say the tweet was pretty frustrating to see while at the dentist trying to not be nervous by my appointment lol.

I acknowledge there are flaws on the Boards, there are things the mod team can do better. The mod team is full of unpaid volunteers, which means schedules are pretty chaotic and people do what they can. Any team of any type will have pros and cons definitely, but I think one of the best strengths of community moderation is the sense of community. We are players who love the game just like everyone else.

All we ask on the Boards is for people to not perpetuate negativity as we try to make the Boards as positive as possible. And though the tweet wasn't created constructively, we'll still do our best to take that information and improve the quality of the community here day in and day out.

Frankly I have no problem with a Developer who likely had no part in making the Boards or running them ripping on the Boards. He's exaggerating obviously but the Boards really don't have much "unique" value save that they're THE League Boards.

After all if I believed some of the highest voted posts, everyone in all elos and all games can clearly see the problems and Riot is totally blind and lazy for not addressing them. If these posts are true and everyone knows these things- you're really not adding anything by making a post about it. "Ashe ult stuns!" <-- No value here- everyone knows Ashe ult stuns.

Also the "tiny" bit of resolve shouldn't have to exist honestly. The fact that a forum post with blatantly incorrect information can have dozens of upvotes and the top comments can all be backing said incorrect information will have dozens of upvotes and I have to search at the bottom for that one guy with maybe 2 upvotes who actually knows his stuff and points out why the OP is wrong? That's ludicrous and in plenty of threads even that one guy won't exist.

That's harsh. If they hated it that much, they just need to avoid the Gameplay boards since that's where most of the ngeativity comes from. Outside Gameplay, the boards isnt that bad
