My thoughts on the new Gameplay+ board

I really like the goals and intention behind it. However I think whether it succeeds or fails in those goals will fully depend on the execution. If the moderators can keep their biases in check and remain impartial I think this will be a great addition. The self-curation of the normal gameplay board through the downvote system I think is inherently toxic, encouraging group-think and pillaging, and only benefits the lowest common denominator of opinions. Fringe opinions and viewpoints are routinely grouped in with genuine low quality content, making any decent discussion of these topics difficult at best.

From what I read in the intro post though I feel like those that have created this new board share a similar opinion and that makes me optimistic for how it will turn out. So for those that put this idea together and executed it, good on you. It seems you do care about a higher quality of discussion and for that it restores some of my faith in what this forum can become and I look forward to seeing how it unfolds.

EDIT: After reading some comments and thinking about things more, I think this new board will have more success if it errs on the side of leniency for topic acceptance and lets the community silently flag content they think is low quality for the moderators to evaluate for removal. This will make the approval process more manageable for the mod staff (it won't be a big deal if a few low quality posts sneak through) and safeguard against any selection biases the mods might develop.

I honestly can't share your optimism because there are already threads approved that only focus on what the writers find frustrating or what they don't like.

Apparently it's accepted to argue that subjective emotions of players constitute an issue that needs to be addressed so whether there actually is an issue is not even analyzed in the first place. Arguing out of frustration is still the way to go instead of taking a neutral stance on the topic.

But this community has huge mentality issues and we know that, because otherwise circlejerking wouldn't be such a big problem to begin with.

Gameplay+ is circle-jerking+

It's still not objective and it's still overwhelmingly one-sided. Which to me is not surprising.

Pretty much anything that rule 2 forbids:

Posts must provide a thoughtful analysis or other meaningful starting point for discussion. Data should be cited where possible, and hyperbole is not appropriate. Do not let your passion about some aspect of the game cloud your ability to present your views, and do not let your views get in the way of having a respectful discussion.

has been broken and approved several times already.

whether it succeeds or fails in those goals will fully depend on the execution. If the moderators can keep their biases in check and remain impartial I think this will be a great addition.

Frustration is part of what a specific gameplay can make a player feel, I don't see why it would be an issue to discuss this. What's problematic is when there is no room for discussion or when real unpopular opinions get shit on even if well constructed, informed and polite. Gameplay+ tries to have a gameplay discussion space that is free of all that.

I love the idea of the new Gameplay+.

An idea that would make it even better:

An agree/disagree voting system in addition to upvoting posts (and the ability to sort "Hot" for for agree/disagree).
