We want your ideas to improve the Boards!

Modmichaelchan·12/14/2018, 8:52:59 PM·13 votes·14,088 views

We asked this question about three months ago, just to get a general, cursory feel of what kind of changes you wanted to see on the Boards. We were able to follow up with some of the requests, but not nearly all of them.

We're coming back to ask the same question, but we'll do our best to go more in-depth with each of your ideas and fully explore these suggestions. We'll, of course, take a look back at our previous thread, but feel free to re-post any of your ideas in this thread.

With that being said, our highest priorities going into the next year are to re-vamp the structure of the Boards, in terms of what sub-boards we have, and what the guidelines for the sub-boards will be. We want to make sure topics have a clear place to go, such that you can expect to find certain threads in certain sub-boards; we also want to ensure that higher quality threads are hitting the Boards front-page, while also giving a space for individuals who just want to fire off a quick rant.

We're hoping to fire off a lot of changes in a short period of time, so thank you in advance for your time, feedback, and helping to improve the Boards.

Be able to directly post images through Boards instead of linking it!

Some of these have probably already been asked, but:

  1. The ability to turn on discussion view on all boards.

  2. Private messaging (might be a bit of a challenge).

  3. The ability to edit a thread's title.

  4. The ability to move threads instead of having to delete them.

  5. The ability to edit polls.

  6. Might only be a problem on my side, but fix the polls. Sometimes clicking the vote button just doesn't work.

  7. A "save" function where you can save a post you want to check out later when you have time to read it under your profile.

  8. More report options when you report a post. One for: Offensive, Spam, Harassment, Incorrect Board, Necromancy (doesn't really go under "spam" most of the time), Malicious Content (this includes scamming and phishing websites, hacks and exploits, non-approved third party programs, as well as pirated content), Illegal Activity (includes personal information leaking as content discussing illegal activities and plans), and finally, one for Other).

  9. Either make Imgur mandatory for all users, or make other image sharing platforms just as compatible with the boards as Imgur is.

  10. More stickers (runes, in-game emotes, etc. etc.)

Well. That's pretty much all I could think of for now.

(This is not in any particular order. The ones at the top do not necessarily hold more priority than the ones below them).

EDIT: Put "Personal Information Leaking" under "Illegal Activity".

Give to the moderators the possibility to move the posts between the sections, without needing to close/delete them and give a warning to the person who posted in a wrong section.

I don't know exactly who is the responsibility/boss/CEO that decide when to give the new graphic to a board, but tell him that we would appreciate the new graphic on the Italian board ;)

Edit: At the moment the only thing we can do, it is just imagine the new graphic on the Italian board. We can't even have a different background (we have not a Rioter on the Italian Board). For this reason some months ago I did this(at least we could imagine the new graphic/a new background):

  1. Colored text or highlight text. This would be particularly useful for mega posts where you want clearer differences in sections (instead of looking for a tiny number among thousands of characters)

  2. Ability menu. You'd pick a champ then all of their abilities would spawn in akin to how champion icons do currently. This would reduce unnecessary clutter and allow cleaner posts where rework, balance or ability discussion are the main draw.

  3. Megathread safety: add a "temp save" which will keep in progress posts safe for say, 1 day unless you refresh it. Posts not published within 3 days are wiped. This saves the hassle of copy pasting to word or vice versa and having to edit in icons.

  4. Add a new section: Guides and assistance. As hostile as the boards are, most of it is in the gameplay section where it's almost purely balance based. Similar to how you added GP+ for better discussion, this would provide a place for people to find out where they're going wrong without being buried under rage posts. Add in harsher penalties for poor taste in posts (shot posts like git gud, l2p or posts that demean in some way).

  5. make icon codes show what they are when hovered over in case one has to re arrange anything

  6. add in an index tool. It would produce a colored, numbered list for clarity when creating it. Then say, 1. "Balance" it would create a separate link heading on your piece to move around matching this. Allowing easier navigation of posts. A simpler version could just be numbers (the titles would be secondary and there just to communicate where u go)

  7. Harsher penalties for low-effort posts: if it's less than a 2 sentences it generally isn't worth the space and is generally there to bash the balance team or rage. Harsher penalties will discourage repeat offenders and potentially produce a better environment for rioters to interact with the community. The sub board mentioned above would prevent short posts with questions from being smashed (it may be as simple as a video and "How could I do this better?")

  8. Voting requires a comment. This helps to stop downvote trolls and false upvoting patterns

your comment being shown at the top of the section for you, it getting annoying having to go through 100+ comments or going to the comment on your profile overview, also maybe a +board of every board instead of just gameplay, ive seen early downvotes cripple new quality posts really often

Eternal Torment12/14/2018, 11:21:10 PM6 votes

Fix/Improve the Search function for the boards.

It often doesn't give you the thread you are looking for if you type in it's name or user and instead gives you random, and mostly archived results, from threads that have 1 or 2 of the words of the search-word in them.

it's really annoying when you have to scroll through the boards for minutes up to hours to find one specific, older post because the search function is that unreliable.

I just want un-biased moderation in the Player Behavior section.

Please fix polls for mobile devices, not working for months now.

KatarinaScripts12/14/2018, 9:14:07 PM4 votes

Can we see poll results while not being logged in and just browsing through threads?

I honestly think dislikes need to be private, like how you can dislike a youtube comment, but no one can see it. There are a lot of situations where I see someone respond to a disscusion in a proper manner, but just because that discussion is most likely attracting x-main, they all dislike that person's response. It makes that person look bad even though they don't deserve that kind of hate. Like if you see a buff Yasuo thread, all the Yasuo mains will downvote the people who say they think he's in a fine place for x reason.

It's either that or mods need to start pushing for a better boards community. Dislikes should be for troll posts, rude replies, and people who spread false information. Dislikes shouldn't be for people who say their opinion in a very nice and formal way, disliking that is just rude. It just leaves less room for actual discussion because now you look bad because of your dislike ratio so either no one is going to speak up and agree with you, because obviously your opinion is unpopular, but obviously everyone will start quoting your response and saying dumb things that deserve downvotes like, "are you serious lol? You're so dumb."

Private messages on the Boards so we dont need to go to Discord.

A per board red tracker.

yándere12/15/2018, 6:49:35 AM4 votes

I hope better moderation is in the works.

For example, there is a highly upvoted post right now full of blatant racism. This is why people just go to reddit instead - the boards have a certain reputation, and I’m sure everyone at Riot knows what I’m talking about.

Kelg12/14/2018, 9:06:59 PM3 votes

give us boards avatars. thats all I want tbh

Shrek will rek12/16/2018, 4:49:25 PM3 votes

Less stupid rules like "oh my god your 800 words thread contains the word "%%%%%%ed" here we removed it because it's against the rules". Stop with the fake "I'm offended".

Rules need to be applied according to the context, not by ctrl+f each thread and looking for any offensive word and removing it

Packun Flower12/15/2018, 1:17:22 AM3 votes

Custom Avatars would be awesome

intra12/14/2018, 9:34:58 PM3 votes

Implementation of Boards profiles (personal customization — other data not implemented already from the Riot Games API (custom borders depending on rank?), a "wall" for users to message others, etc.) and a space dedicated to show who is online (implications may include specific section for moderators as an alternative contact).

EDIT: Allow members to watch threads and get notifications whenever a comment is added

Kaisha12/15/2018, 5:44:13 AM3 votes

Why? There's no point to these boards. The devs don't give a shit, nothing in here matters, its just reddit 2.0. In the end its just a bunch of ppl yelling at each other.

Allow mobile users to use stickers! Every now and again I'll click the post button and theyll randomly pop up instead of posting the comment so I know they are there somewhere. I only use Safari (iphone default) if that matters.

TheSymbolÔfPeace12/14/2018, 9:55:12 PM2 votes

I don't think this a problem on computers, but on the phone if you hit upvote/downvote and then hit the upvote/downvote to take it away, the color of whether you upvotes or downvoted will stay. Not a big deal but it just bothers me a bit :).

Cetri12/14/2018, 9:15:08 PM2 votes

Can you guys maybe treat r****d like you do so many other words? It's not something that I feel should be accepted on a forum whose "Golden Rule" is to be respectful towards your fellow community members.

Imperial Pandaa1/10/2019, 8:57:09 AM1 votes

Something that may be nice, but not realistic:

Auto lock on a thread that hasn't been active for X months. This would hopefully cut down on the amount of necromancy that comes around.
