Facilitate civil discussion - No. Drive constructive feedback - No.

Yes it does, indirectly. A downvote is far more preferable to driving the conversation than just a useless, "I disagree" or "this post was useless" comment. Just as upvotes are far more preferable than just a useless, "I agree" post.

Enjoy yourself but not at anyone elses expense - No.

If you're going to argue this then the simple act of arguing a point fails to accomplish this.

Build relationships - No.

You're not required to build relationships with people on the boards or in the game.

Leave no player behind - No.

The note on this one even mentions that some people will not be receptive to your ideas no matter how you put it and it would be best to exit the conversation in such cases.

Upvote and downvote responsibly - No.

So you're assuming that everyone is downvoting irresponsibly?

Lead by example - No.

If they agree with the upvote/downvote system they are leading by example if they are making use of the tool.

Disrespectful or insulting other community members - Yes. Spamming or trolling - Yes. Naming and shaming - Yes.

Assumption, assumption, and assumption. You can only come to the conclusion to all three of those if you assume the motivation of the person making the vote. And I'm not entirely sure how it's possible a downvote can "name and shame" someone without any naming.

Tbh, I often feel that downvoting allows for manipulation of a discussion in an unhealthy way. I tend to agree with you. I feel the positive, up-vote only environment of G+ has been really successful. Is that something you'd like to see on the Boards in a wider way?

For clarity, I'm not promising anything, but I'm curious about how you would feel about it.

Wh-what? The Universal Board Rules has absolutely nothing to do with the Voting Polls.

If I don't agree with something, I want to have the choice to indirectly say I don't agree. Basic moral right to me, don't want to bring another community into this, but the amount of people hating on the Yandere Dev game developer for taking out downvotes in his community caused an uproar. I would leave forums completely if it was removed..

Most of the Internet is garbage. By and large, downvotes help people steer clear of the worst parts of it.

reporting won't really help cause how players who have been reported get away scott free?

I think Daily Kos is the best implementation of a "no downvote" system I've ever seen, but it has the benefit of a community built over more than a decade and a bunch of under-the-hood features (only "trusted users" can flag a post, for example) that solidify board reputation there that would be impossible to duplicate here. I'm not afraid of the pushback on removing downvotes, especially in PB and it's something I've put forward several times over the years.

I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.
