Hexdrinker Shield Denying Assists
So, the enemy Jarvan had Hexdrinker pop, Xerath long range ulted and hit him once but not enough to kill the shield. Draven flashed for the kill and Xerath was not given the assist.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's how it is for any shield. If you don't actually damage the champ then you won't get an assist(talking about a pure damage skill, this excludes CC and other things).
