Client/game don't handle change of IP address

I use a vpn most of the time, but normally turn it off for league matches for lower ping, but if I ever forget and disconnect once a game starts, I'm disconnected from the game for at least a minute. If I turn off the vpn while in a lobby or champ select, the client disconnects and NEVER reconnects, eventually prompting me to close the game and reopen and sticking me with a 5 minute ban.

At no point during this process do I actually lose internet, my IP address just changes, but the client appears unable to handle my IP changing while I'm logged in.

I understand that this is a very niche issue and wouldn't be surprised to get a 'will not fix', but it would be a nice quality of life bugfix for people using vpns.
