Patch 9.14 - "A critical error has occurred" Report Megathread

There's been quite a lot of instances of this issue occurring. To help resolve the issue as best as possible, if/when your game shows this error, please collect the dump file while the game is still running and provide it here. To generate a dump file:

Start Task Manager

Find "League of Legends (32 bit)" under the Background processes section (not Apps section) on the Processes tab
Right click it and select create dump file. This will create the dump and tell you where it is stored (you can copy+paste that file path)
Find the file (will be a DMP File type) and reduce its size by Right click > Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder
Upload this compressed file to a google drive and share here. Alternatively, you can open a support ticket and attach the file to the ticket.

I normally cannot do any file dumps when my client freezes either during the loading screen or victory screen before post-game loads up. It also freezes my computer so I have to forcibly reset my computer.

I can't play any gamemode, TFT included. It gives me this error before loading screen and it gets stuck on the reconnect screen until the game ends.

Just a note - if this helps locate the problem...the critical error was popping up under the previous patch too.

I just had this issue in ranked flex. Came to the bug thread to report the problem and turns out its not only me.. If I get leaver busted I swear.. I will try to do the dump file thing if it happens again; please fix the game riot

I am unable to play the game and lost 2 ranked games because of this today alone. Can't really play the game while this issue is here, thanks for the lost LP.

Considering this issue suddenly occured with the release of the last 2 patches, how about releasing some inside information on what sort of changes has been made to make frequent crashes a thing at all?

A game doesn't suddenly begin to crash or fail to load by changing some stat values.

I am still getting this error along with the loading screen freezing, can they please fix these bugs. I contacted support and they say its my firewall and antivirus, load of bs cause before 9.14 I never had these crashes.

Tonight, it wouldn't even load into the game. The client say game in progress, but the load screen is not there. I had to reboot again. I have run the fix program several time. I will try to reinstall tomorrow.

This error was probably caused by the announcement of the removal of TT.

This is stupid. keep losing points even though I have this bug every like 5/10 games depend. So basically it's a bug with at least more than 1% occurrence for every player. so 10% every game. and they still punish you for their BUG. f u

Getting a black loading screen with a game cursor. You cannot bring up the Task Manager to do the dump. The black screen is in front of all other windows processes and prevents you from accessing the Task Manager. Further, you are literally forced to reboot the computer to get out of the "freeze".

Well i can t get into Rift aram or enything! right after the champion selection league just shuts down and i can t even reconnect and i got punished for afk.. 20 min.. and i still can t play the game

Still no Solution for this Bug.

Why cant we just Revert the 9.14 patch like we did the 9.10 patch so 90%of the community could just play the game again. Like no one cares if the Tft gamemode gold bar looks a little jank or that if you equip an item while your champions are fighting in Tft that you get a random icon in your item slots you cant move.

I Wanna play the game again without the freezes during loading lobby.

Hey there, I don't know if anyone has found a fix yet but I think I have a temp solution if you're willing to try. I started getting the same issues around 2 days ago, tried uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing worked. I finally checked my files and tried deleting BOTH my config and LOGS folder in the "Game" folder from the League of Legends directory and I haven't had any issues since. Maybe this will work for you too maybe not but worth a shot right ? Best of luck summoner 31

Please fix this asap! It keeps happening to me during loading screen and the only solution is to restart the pc so far which leads to a remake and me getting leaverbuster. It's happening very often and the leaverbuster is at 20mins right now :( . Please Riot, I can't rank up like this T~T

My client is stuck in some kind of flawed loop, Whenever I try to play LoL and go through the login process I receive the "Restart now" message, however when I try to restart My game to update I get a message saying: "There was an error and we don't know why" or something like that.

I would love to know how I can fix this issue.

Ive won a TFT-Match on Thursday, i didnt get a Stat-Screen at the end, pressed Play Again, accepted the match, waited for the loading screen... got a message with System Error, Critical Error. After that ive tried: delete config and log files, set Resolution to 800*600, Hextech Repair full repair, full reinstall, compatibility mode (all of them), shut down anti virus/firewall, another reinstall. Nothing worked (remember: it happened right after a match!) Today ive updated my graphic drivers and tadaaa: league worked again like nothing weird happened before.

i think you have problem server because the 3 last game was losing because we had 4 or 5 afk it's not the connexion i think it's server so i lose 20 lp because i can't reconnect fuck u riot

Just ran into this today, Two clean uninstalls and Reinstall's and the gamestill crashes at 95% on the loading screen before freezing my cpu and forcing a restart. Post restart the game will leave me at the reconnect where clicking the button does absolutely nothing. Anyone find any fixes for this?
