Game updating right after restarting my client (during game)

Okay, so I start up a simple Blind Pick Game as jungle and my ping shoots up into the 500s during the loading screen. Eventually, it says my game crashed and then I couldn't connect to the Proxy Server. I then restart my client and try to go to the launch screen but it's literally updating at 33% and is currently at 400+ files while my game is still going on.

I don't understand this. There's no new patch that's out (it's Patch 5.14 right now) and restarting the client just resets the update to 1 file like a normal update. Can someone inform me as to WHY this happens and HOW to avoid it?

I think its an update, I just got on and it is updating on mine as well and I haven't been on in a few hours.

I'm at over 1700 files now. Honestly, I could understand that updating is necessary but it's literally nearing the size of an entire patch now. My game has been going on for over 12 minutes now. I don't like how people who disconnect and have to re-update their client during a game have to go through the entire process of the update. What's bothering me more is the risk of being banned since my teammates don't know what my situation is and can easily report me for "being AFK".

Update: Yeah my team lost. FF'd at 20:35 losing 24 to 8 AND THE UPDATE IS STILL GOING ON AT OVER 4400 FILES! -.-
