Client won't open properly

Posting for a friend. Their client was working fine tonight until they tried joining a lobby. The game had a PVP.net issue and wasn't able to join, but still visually appeared in the lobby. They logged out and attempted to log back in, but had login/server kernal issues. So, they tried uninstalling/reinstalling. After the reinstallation, ended up with a loading bar that took a few minutes to complete. Once the patcher had actually opened, it started looking for updates as per usual - however, it never found any and never proceeded with the patching.

Any solutions/suggestions?
