Any tips for solving an issue where I get into a game, but can't see champion select?

Hi,

Twice today I've been hit but a bug where I accept and get into a game, but champion select won't load. I can hear the bans being made, and the game itself started to load the lolclient.exe, but the actual champion select never appears and I'm forced to stare at the League client until I end up dodging the game.

Due to the nature of the current champion select, once this happens I cant even restart the client to attempt to reconnect to the lobby I was in.

My LeaverBuster points are stacking, and I'm getting scared.

Are there any tips and tricks to averting this?
