@RiotRepertoir. Major Bug on W stacking on Garen

LegenDariusGaren··60 votes·7,016 views

Patch 5.16 W: Passively, Killing units permanently grants 0.25 Armor and Magic Resist (1 for kills on Champions, Large Monsters and Epic Monsters), to a maximum of 30 at all ranks.

Patch 5.17 W: Passive bonuses now stack twice as fast on alternate maps.

However, On Summoner's Rift, you only get 0.25 armor and magic resist for killing champions, large monsters and epic monsters. On alternate maps, you only get 0.5 armor and magic resist for killing champions, large monsters and epic monsters.

I tested it in a bot game, custom game, ARAM, normal, twisted treeline, and dominion and it fails to stack correctly on all of them. item 3070 Garen

Thanks for bringing this up. This does look like a bug relative to the expectations the patch notes set, but the in-game tooltip never reflected the increase on champions, large monsters, and epic monsters. I can fix this pretty easily, but I need to run it by the balance team and see if we think it's the right call, since there are power implications to the change.

I'll try to check back in with an answer when I have one.

I've also noticed this issue on Garen quite a bit so I can confirm its accuracy. On an unrelated matter, I was wondering why players take damage as Vladimir when an item that grants bonus health and/or Ability Power is purchased. I've played Vladimir numerous times on ARAM (I currently have over 2800 ARAMs played). I've also tried this on Summoner's Rift in a custom game and I noticed the same issue however, the issue is far less noticeable on Summoner's Rift because the spawn pool heals you so rapidly that you hardly notice it unless you instantly close out of the shop (or look at Vladimir's health bar) upon purchasing an item that grants you bonus health and/or Ability Power. Could you possibly explain why this occurs?

Repertoir is love, Repertoir is life.

Vlad's passive increases his max health, but not his current health. So purchasing an AP item makes it seem like he's taking damage. However, I didn't notice that happening with health items, though I only checked it once with triple Ruby Crystals.

Yeah, I assumed it had something to do with his Crimson Pact because I was only able to replicate this issues with bonus health/Ability Power items. I just think it's silly and was wondering if it could be leading to other underlying issues, particularly a tooltip issue where it might not accurately calculate the amount of extra health/AP granted. Each time I've done the math, which wasn't as often as I should have been doing it, the amount was pretty accurate.

Haven't actually checked, but this is almost certainly due to his passive. I imagine it doesn't have much of an effect, if any, because even without fountain regen, the amount is small and regens up quickly I assume.

Yes, you'd be correct in making this assumption. Just thought I would point it out because "spaghetti code" incidents like this are always interesting to me as someone who's familiar with coding. When things like this pop up, I'm always interested to know if it's just a tooltip error or if it's actually a more prevalent under-the-hood issue.

It only seems like Vlad's taking damage, but really, he isn't. He just doesn't get healed for the bonus HP he gets. For example, let's say you have 2000 HP and you buy an AP item. Upon purchase, your HP raises to 2100, but you still have 2000. Visually on health bar, it looks like you got damaged, but really, you just don't have full HP anymore. That's what happens.

Wait what? you need to run this by the balance team? wasn't it supposed to work the way OP describes to begin with? /boggle

As Repertoir said, the tooltip didn't reflect that behavior. It could've been functionality that was cut after the patch notes were written but before the actual patch was finalized. Thus, it's not unreasonable to double-check with the balance team before giving Garen that buff.

It's the right thing to do to run it by the balance team because Garen is currently balanced around the functionality that has existed on the Live environment since the Juggernauts patch, not around the theoretical numbers in the patch notes.

Uhhh you do realize that none of what you said answers my question(s)... right? I mean you just..... nevermind, play politics all you want you are the one with the power, not me.

What he's saying is that, yes, it's a bug. But it's a bug he's been unknowingly balanced against. If it were simply fixed it would become a big buff to Garen...something he may not need. Guess which team would decide what to do about it? Balance. Like he said.

Unlike you, I am not just going to blindly suck up to Riot employees , I am not a sycophant... I would like my questions to be answered and that is not unreasonable.

But, being condescending and irritable about it is, in fact, unreasonable. Especially considering he answered your question (which he didnt even have to respond to at all) and you were too busy worrying about your own ego to grasp what he was saying.

No he did not.

You didn't need to ask the first time, since your question was basically a reprhasing of what he said. So he didn't have to repeat himself. But he did.

And you kept on. Good job.

Just because you can't read properly doesn't mean he hasn't answered your question.

On a related note, could you please bring up the Mordekaiser W passive bug with CertainlyT or whomever is appropriate? Since the Juggernaut patch rework, on alternate maps, Morde only gets bonus XP when killing cannon minions near allies. Both the tooltip and functionality on SR reflect that Morde should gain bonus XP on all minion kills.

If the fix would take too much effort or the buff would be undesirable, could the tooltip be altered on alternate maps to specify cannon minions? It'd help a lot in terms of player expectations.

LegenDariusGaren5 votes

Even if we don't get this on Summoners RIft, can we try to get this change especially for ARAM? Everyone is constantly killing the minions and it is so hard for a melee champ to farm in a poke heavy environment. Can be said similarly about Dominion.

reewinder4 votes

I suspected the same thing playing ARAM. I'd kill minion after minion and only have like one or two bonus armor and magic resist from his W. Thanks for posting your findings. Hopefully they will work on this.

LegenDariusGaren3 votes

I'm embarrassed that I haven't noticed it till now. Whenever I play ARAM as Garen, I literally bush camp all game and try to stack the W via kills. When I noticed it today, I was like oh crap, I need to farm like 60 minions.
