Goalkeeper Blitzcrank's hook animation is off by X degrees

I'm not sure how many degrees it's off by, but it seems to add(this means going clockwise) enough to be roughly half a hook's width. I don't own the skin, so I don't have a good way of testing it. I have an ARAM game replay I could upload if you're interested in comparing various hooks that miss and those that land, but I'm sure you guys have a better way of figuring out how many degrees it's off by.

To reproduce, simply watch him cast it on anyone. If they dodge clockwise, they can still get hit, but if they dodge counter-clockwise, they don't get it.

Animation for straight line skill shots is also bugged on other skins of various champions, I'm not sure if these skins are getting fixed and if they are, where we're getting notifications that they've been fixed, so I don't want to just keep throwing out extra champion names when I don't even know which skins they are or if the skins are still an issue. Just doing this as a one bug at a time for now.

Edit: these observations were taking from an ARAM game and Blitzcrank was on the bottom left side. These animation differences were exacerbated because of the travelling angle on that map. I believe that at many angles, the hand travels normally. However, I distinctly remember him targeting me when I was directing above him once and I got snagged because I didn't sidestep far enough(perhaps I should've gone the other way) because I thought I was already out of the way when in fact the hand's angle was being displayed correctly at that particular angle for a change.

In fact, it's not always going clockwise by a certain number of degrees, but rather 360 degrees the hand may or may not line up correctly(sometimes it goes counter clockwise) with the targeted line at any given degree. While it seems totally random, I suspect that there is an analog viewing error at play here. Originally I had assumed that my snagging directly above Blitzcrank was due to a lapse in concentration on my part when in fact it was the hand actually travelling correctly for once which took me off guard.

Hey SanKakU -

Thanks for the report!

This particular skin uses base Blitzcrank's animation, so it shouldn't be any different than what you're seeing with base. Are you experiencing this issue on base as well?

Edit: I don't think but am not sure that this is a skin-specific problem, but rather an analog problem, presumably with an older viewing angle of the game, maybe before the new Summoner's Rift map, maybe even before that, I don't know. This may not be the correct explanation for the problem, it's just a guess.

Are you sure? His hand is black, why would you say that? He has a different colored hand for every skin, doesn't he? Look at this video, I didn't take it but see how many degrees clockwise the hand travels? That's messed up. If Katarina moved a tiny bit down she'd still be hooked. It looks like it barely hits her while she's standing still and he's aiming directly at her.

Here's another video where we see the angle being off, but I don't think it's off by as much as with the Goalkeeper skin although it's hard for me to tell for sure:

The important thing to take away from this is that the farther the hand travels, the greater the error that a enemy player has to deal with when trying to sidestep the hand visually. Maybe it is happening with default Blitzcrank, I'm not sure. Most Blirzcrank players have a skin.

Edit: Okay, I decided to try to see if this bug was affecting the default skin or not because after seeing enough videos on YouTube, I'm confused and wanted to see what would happen if I target specific parts of terrain with Default Blitz since I do own him and what I discovered is nothing short of nonsense.

At various targeting angles, the hand seems to line up perfectly or close enough while at not a few similar or very different angles the hand doesn't not line up at all. I don't really have an explanation as to why this is happening...but spamming the Q enough times in practice tool, the one thing it reminds me of is an analog clock.

Analog clocks normally are a bit fickle because if you're looking at them from the wrong angles, they will on some parts of the clock have the hands not line up correctly on the indicators on the clock. This seems to indicate to me that his Q animation is not travelling on the same angles as the default field of vision for players.

I tried zooming in the camera to see if that would make the problem go away, but I doubt it. I suspected that you would rather need a blimp's viewpoint on him to get the angle to work right. Sure enough, zooming in makes the angles look even more off.

At the default player camera angle, it might be something like 70/30 for angles correctly/incorrectly shown, while once you zoom in, it's more like 15/85. These are just rough estimates for the percentages of correctly displayed angles.

Also worth noting which contradicts my earlier observation that when I used certain angles, it was the opposite, the hand was going counter clockwise to the place targeted. Which is why I started thinking about analog clock inaccuracy depending on incorrect viewing angle to begin with. I can't move the camera to a position where the hand would be correctly displayed in the practice tool, but I assume for a developer, it would not be difficult to do. At any rate, there is some unknown viewing angle that isn't the player's viewing angle that has the hand showing correctly travelling towards the targeted point, but I believe that it makes little to no sense for players to be subjected to this analog inaccuracy.

Hey!

Sorry for the delay here - got a bit sidetracked with a lot of work in office. I really appreciate the detailed reply. I'm going to pass a lot of this on to Champion and have them take a look, since they would know the inner workings of a champion better than myself; they're SMEs as opposed to myself.

I'd said the animations are the same for many of the skins, which they are. What has changed are the actual VFX of the (Q) hook itself. Those will change, depending on the skin, as we would want the hook on the model to match the (Q) when the skill is used.
