Client Froze During Champ Select

Just qualified for my g2 promo series. In champ select my client freezes during ban phase, stays frozen until it is my turn to pick. Showed me there was 20 seconds left to pick then immediately returns me to "create game" screen and tells me I have a 5 minute wait for not selecting my champ. Auto loss in promo. Restarted my client and it patched for like 10 seconds, hotfix maybe? I'm sure this isn't the first time this happened to someone, but it's shitty that it happened during my promo series. Is there a way to prevent this in the future? I can still win the promo series, but it sucks to be given a loss due to a client malfunction.
