Projectiles not doing damage if you die as they're still in flight?

So I saw this before a couple days ago while playing adc, but then I saw it again today while playing Brand. I was diving into fountain in order to kill a Corki and the fountain got me just as I ulted. My ult flew, hit, and did no damage. Is this kind of stuff intentional?
