Whenever I want to exit the client, all I need to do it press the Hextech crafting tab.
Works 85% of the time, all the time!

I've seen some people having issues with this due to plays.tv, so if you're using that I'd recommend closing that. If not (or maybe even if so) you'll want to try doing a client repair by clicking the question mark on the top right of your launcher.
