Maokai empowered E not blocked by spellshield

Nocturne spellshield (E) does not block empowered maokai sapling (E), the initial explosion is blocked however the damage over time afterwards continues to hit him. I would assume this is the same for sivir spellshield.

It is the same for Sivir, I just played a game of her against Maokai. It's rather upsetting to take ~12% of your health worth of damage after blocking the initial blast.
