This has been happening since probably April with one of the patches and at first I thought nothing of it since it only happened every once in a while. With each patch, my client freezes get more and more frequent. Just today it froze six times. It can freeze anywhere including the home page, team builder, champ select, etc.
How am I supposed to feel confident playing ranked when there's such a high chance of my promos being thrown by some bug?
Is it a consistent freeze or just a quick fps freeze for a few seconds?
I observe similar behaviour, last time client succeed to freeze completely Mac OS. Especially annoying is that game also intentionally penalizing people in such situation e.g. player is obviously not responsible for quality of client's software. Client at least could check if it's crashed and rely this information to server side, while it is possible to exploit , it still better than double penalty "solution".

i have the same problem too. i would be in champ select, queue, or just the home page and it would freeze completely, in game I'm fine, I run everything to the max setting with a solid 60fps. my specs are: GPU- GeForce GTX 750 Ti CPU- Intel(R) CORE(TM) i5-4690k CPU @ 3.50GHz 16GB RAM OS- Wndows 7 Ultimate
Riot, please fix this, it also occurs mostly when i decide to look at another window like google chrome or skype (for mr, not sure about other people) if that helps. please try and work toward a fix
