it might be because iirc the extra mana you gained from ranking it up persists after you sell the item. not 100% sure if that is still the case or not.

The Muramana gives +1000 mana, which is more than my maximum mana in the screenshots.

any mana it grants remains even from tears iirc.

Did you completely disregard everything I just said? Jarvan IV's maximum mana at lvl 18 is 982, as in the screenshots. You didn't recall correctly.
