Body blocking in Carousel

I was playing with my friend last night and he kept telling me how he "Needed that GP" . I had an earlier pick than him so I went and grabbed my pick and then sat on the GP to give him a spook. When it came his turn to pick, he tried to walk and pick up the GP. Because the little legends can't stand in the same spot and - for some reason - have unit collision on, I ended up changing his pathing to make his character unable to grab the GP and even walk into the Darius right behind the GP.

In fact, I've almost been pushed into the wrong unit by other players before too. Can riot just disable the unit collision on the characters? If not, I can fully see a strategy arising where all the lower tier players band together to just sit on top on a favorable character/item and effectively block people from grabbing it.
