Match making against same skill level?

I’m curious how the matchmaking works i play the game and the other players always seem to be better than I. I’m not complaining I love playing anyways but it would be cool if we could play with others with the same skill level. If we loose we play against people who aren’t as good and if we win then we play against players that might be a little better. Just curious if that’s how it works or if this is ever how it will work
