During the carousel I choose the item not the champion. (Am I alone?)

Based on what I've observed following patch 9.15, players will typically sell the champion they chose just for the item. If Riot's design decision for the 9.15 patch was to make items the top priority, then I digress.

I was under the impression that that was always the case. Usually you don't get a champion that also happens to have an item you want on that champion.

Given the economy of items to the economy of champs I'd call it the right move

There's a very rare situation where I'll choose champion - 6th Noble/6th Yordle in particular - but yes, item comes first 96% of the time. Champion choice only matters if the same item is offered twice.

We're forced to do that because of how important items are in this game mode. At the very least they should change the item rng to gaurantee the same number of items for every player. Not the same items, just the same number of items.

You can spend gold to reroll for champs you can't do that for items. Outside of a few rare things with Legendarys or Epics you should almost always be picking for the item and this isn't anything new

Only if I need a Yasuo for 6 blademasters or a Kayle for 6 nobles. Thats the only exceptions I pick champ over item.
