How good is Teamfight tactics ?

So I've been playing a lot of Auto-chess since everyone is, and whyle I think Teamfight Tactics is going to be the best of them, I'd like to go over why that is, and why it is (and might) not :

Pros :

  • Characters : This argument could go to dota, since I guess it's mostly personnal taste and experience (Even though I have 400+ hours of dota2), I really enjoy league of legends characters, so I feel more invested on my team comp, and on who does what. And I'm damned hyped about hypotethic future additions.

  • Items : This is objectivly the big plus. Items being ALL combinable makes for great ergonomy, whyle also making all items usefull, so you (almost) never feel let down on the item you get.

  • Character Pool : Whyle this is kind of annoying in-game when everyone pick YOUR character, it encourage you to build according others and kind of forces diversity.

  • Spatula : Between the combo potential (Vayne blademaster <3) and finishing/increasing existing synergies, this item is truly amazing.

  • Special pick : Both fun and annoying, it does makes items a bit less random and lets you feel you have some control on your build. A shame everyone's always running for that damned spatula I really needed. But this part isn't why the special pick is interesting, it's just how it makes up for the game's weakness. The truly good part is the lottery it creates, making you sometimes obtening early big characters for your team, and allowing you to catch up on others.

Cons :

  • HUD : No attack value, no attack speed, no dps graph, characters NOT having their family showned under them, not seing others gold and level... A lot of things have to be done here. Unless this was a choice of DA. Then I would argue it's a poor one.

  • Character management : So I can't put more characters than my maximum between turns ? That's annoying, especially when I'm about to die and I have 50+ gold to spend. But when I pick a character at the special pick, it does add itself on the board if everything else's is full. That's inconsistent, plus it sometimes remove a key character if you dont sell your special pick, and that can be game ending. Either add a special spot for this special character that auto-sells right at the start of next turn(/special pick?), or force sell the special pick. Personnaly, I'd add a second line of character's space, that autosells itself everyturn. Makes a good solution for both problems.

  • Damage : How many damage I'm gonna take is very unclear, and I find it to be really unforgiving sometimes. Plus I really feel games end way too fast. This one's not a mobile game right ? So maybe we can extend a little, we're not playing with people on the bus !

  • Neutral waves : This part is the worse (okay, after hud). Sure the items are great, but getting them is way too random to my taste, I feel dota's rule's way more competitive (You always get 1 item out of 3, and you can chose wich if you win). I'm not saying the team should copy paste dota's rule, but there's room for improvement here. Plus you do take damage on them ! loosing the game to neutral mobs feels wrong. At least they should do non-lethal damage.

Others :

  • Passive bonus : Dota's passives are currently, at least to me, the big plus mechanical wise over league of legends. Having passive global bonus give you an early cap on what to build, and feels really rewarding when you obtain them after building the corresponding team. I feel inspiration has to be taken from that mechanic if we don't want it to be a permanent plus over teamfight tactics.

Thank you for reading me, please share your thoughts on what is helping or not this game, and on what you'de like to see removed/added/edited ! The designers will probably never do it, otherwise they couldn't justify their pay (;P) but it could at least inspire them a little by showing what is working, what is not, and the rest.
