Why do spiderlings cause knock out points?

Why is this a thing? Just because someone's Elise spawns a ton of spiders, I shouldn't take extra knockout points if I lose against them. I faced the same guy three times and took such a massive hit from him because of all of his stupid spiderlings.

IMO the spiders should count, but only as one. So if you knocked out Elise but didn't get rid of every spider, you still take the full damage from Elise. Knocking out all but one spider and knocking out nothing should be exactly the same number of points.
