I guess a lot of people caught up on the idea how to exploit the ranking system to advance.

See... When you just play solo like you should, you will end up matched against players of the same skill level. And then you will randomly win and lose games. Problem is, you lose a lot more LP for losing than you gain for winning. 4th place is just a few LP gain, 1st place is about the same +LP as 7th place -LP, and 8th place is a MASSIVE loss. The system is skewed towards an average loss of LP while your finishing place is not (vs equal players).

So eventually you get stuck and can't advance in rank anymore. One 5-8 place finish undoes two 1-4 place finishes.

But! If there was somebody who would take that 8th place away, then your chances become much better. When you can no longer finish 8th no matter what happens, your average finish (4th place) will give you a small +LP on average. Then you can keep advancing much further, until your opponents are so strong that you struggle to finish 4th.

Get the idea yet? It's very simple: bring an alt, party up and throw the game on it. That lv 1 River Sprite takes the 8th place and makes the huge LP loss impossible for you.

No, this is not against the rules. I've asked about it, why partying is allowed in ranked TFT where it should be FFA. Riot doesn't seem to care.

What's more, this is 'beneficial' not only for you, but for everybody else in the game. And the more people bring their little lv 1 River Sprite 'friends' the more everybody benefits. To the point where 4 players do it and GUARANTEE +LP for themselves. How do you think those 'Challengers' get there? ;)

The only problem is that the alt needs to be within a certain range of you to be allowed to party. Like, it has to be at least Bronze to party with a Gold. But when you are actually Gold, pushing an alt into Bronze isn't hard at all. That's what you see on the screenshot above: somebody plays an alt to win, because they need that alt to be able to party with their much higher ranked main.

This is totally rigged and f'd up! An FFA solo game that allows partying is not really FFA, is it? Still, Riot doesn't seem to mind.
