Comp ideas
Recently i've been struggling to win, any comp suggestions would help tremendously.
Recently i've been struggling to win, any comp suggestions would help tremendously.
I got to diamond 2 primarily playing only 2 comps, Light/ lunar, ocean/mage. I admit dabbling a little on inferno, blademaster/desert, or zerker comps once in a while out of boredom or when the game just forces me into that direction, but my success with those comps is significantly lower tho.
There are around 7-8 solid comps that u can win with, but that's not what differentiates good players from mediocre ones. The game is like a formula, you need to understand your comp down to the bone. Which units in your comp are the best to pivot on. How aggressive of an econ strategy should you use for that specific comp. The exact tier list of item spikes and which items to draft for your comp. What to build when drops don't go your way. What hp is acceptable at what phase of the game. When should u give up your plan and hit the panic button and go all in.
I'll give you an example but this is gonna be long, so stop here if its boring LOL.
Lets take the top tier Ocean/Mage for example. Since its the most simple and effective of the bunch. Opening draft, always prioritize for tear or rod, if u got outdrafted, take giants belt or crit glove, still no luck, take bf or armor, dont touch negatron cloak.
Now obviously if I end up finding a ton of light units early on, I'm gonna just play light, but for sake of argument, let's say I'm finding my vlads tayliah syndras early on. Great! Don't build anything on them. The units u want to carry u thru early game are: Qiyanna ( shes like uber great with tayliah if it happens to be mountain, but shes good regardless) Ezreal, kindred, and worse case scenario Zyra. In that exact order, the reason being, your goal for items is going to be archangel staff, spell crit glove, and morellos for your OP carry Brand for late game. And all of those items happen to be great on the units listed above.
Go ahead and toss ur defensive items onto your thresh, if u cant find thresh toss them onto your Naut, reason being if everything goes according to plan you're going to be selling thresh and transferring his items onto malphite late game. GA is the best defensive item you can get for this comp, because it almost guarantees your unit will get its ult off, which is huge when u transition into malphite. General defensive item order will go GA> zeyph (if u have an extra giants belt) > dragon claw > bramble, the other good ones will generally cost u a tear which makes it not worth getting. On a earth map warmogs is decent, otherwise not so much.
Toss all the worthless Attackspeed trash onto veigar generally, if u have too many crit gloves, make a theives glove for nami> veigar> naut.
So you needa understand ocean mage generally gets fucked early so if u dont go for druids early ( i generally dont), your gonna be tanking, I dont go druids because items for this comp are essential so losing some hp and drafting a decent item matters more. The hp you wanna be aiming for is higher than 80 on the 2nd draft, higher than 50 on the 3rd draft, be as greedy as possible (grab core units obviously) with your econ if u can maintain these hp goals. Once u hit over 50 gold, outside of grabbing core units, dont waste anything on rerolling and focus on lving up with max interest. U stabilize on lv8.
If you are falling below these hp limits by a fair amount, you needa be cautious, start rolling a lil and find a few 2 stars to prevent u from plummeting out of control. In these unfortunate scenarios, your goal is probably gonna be damage control and aiming for 3rd place at best. If u dont damage control and gamble, from experience more often than not ur gonna get 7th or 8th.
As stated previously, once u get a 2 star 3 item brand ur gonna start wreaking face most likely with ur 6 mages and 4 ocean combo. Absolutely make sure brand isn't left in a vulnerable corner that Assasins can just 1 shot, and dont put him on a zephyr slot = =. This god phase should occur around 35hp left.
Once u finish 2 staring most of ur core comp, u start saving all ur gold again and aim for lv9. When u hit lv9 u sell thresh for nami and put in malphite for mountain bonus with tayliah. In lucky scenarios where u have a magecap (not rabadons), u dont need lv9, u just get rid of ur leblanc and put the mage cap on malphite so he gets off his op double ult.
Since its super rare, im not gonna mention the best case sceanrios like, 3star veigar or finding a 2 star ocean lux, those situations should be str8 forward and easy to handle.
ENd game comp, 6 mages, 4 ocean (naut vlad syndra nami) , 2 warden ( naut malphite), 2 mountain ( malphite, tayliah).
Thank god i type fast LMFAO
I play for the Woodland dream to level 7ish.
On my bench i have a 2/4 Blade master 2/4 Cloud 4/4 Mystic 3/9 Light 2/6 Warden 2/2 Lunar Being prepared in the likely event that i dont get a bunch of 3starred Woodlands or a Woodland Lux. Generally keeping an eye on the possibility of 4/4 Blademaster Yi.
At which point i sell all my tree's and typically use Aatrox as my carry. Sometimes Yi if im lucky enough to 2star one. Aatrox with Cloud/Mystic/Light/Lunar is pretty strong. Not the best thing, but as long as you put a Jeweled Gauntlet on him, that in conjunction with Lunar will steamroll through things. You also have alot of longevity and can survive most comps for extended periods of time. If you arent able to 2star a Yi, the Jeweled Gauntlet on your Aatrox is really the only neccisary item in the comp. Everuthing else can be purely defensive.
If a Ranger team is giving you trouble, itemize your Leona with mana and or a ThornMail so that she can instantly activate her ability and tank Rangers for 10+ seconds(Its important that you have a correctly positioned tank that can soak a itemized Twitch).
Really the only thing thats a big problem is Singed, but thats because Singed is broken and hes a problem for everything. Oh, and 3star Veigars.
What comps Do you usually run? My big snag I run into is I tend to just stick to a few comps so I'm pretty susceptible to being countered.
Some I like are Infernal/shadow/ summoner (you can mix in warden or ranger), Electric/Summoners, Beserkers are fun I feel its really dependent on Items and lvl 2 olaf. My friend Does Druids and transitions into Ocean/mage usually leaving in Like Maokai and Ivern and Just kinda Meat for a bit. Also 4 desert Electric Glacial. Also I've been seeing this Predator Build where you go Like WW/Skaner/Kog then You kinda transition in Pred/Glacial/Crystal/Poison/Ranger. You can get away with switching one to Rek and Pick up Noct for Steel but that seems to be a bit weaker. The comp seems hyperroll dependent You want that Lvl 3 kog. Ludens the Kog, a few static shivs can also help proc Pred buff.
I'd love to know what comps You run I'm only gold 3 at the moment and working on climbing to Plat, I've been working On learning which Items are need for each. That way I have two comps that use similar items to make RNG less punishing.
