Unit pool size

I'm just looking for a clear explanation how the number of a certain unit works. Lets say there can only 12 zeds. If I take 3, and make a single 2 star, do two get added back to the total pool? So now there could only be 11 other zeds. Or what happens when someone gets eliminated? Do their champs get added back into rotation? Just some questions I would like to know the answer to

If you take 3 for a silver, there are only 9 available.

I'm not positive, but I believe when someone is eliminated, their champions go back in the pool.

Let me clear this up. First when you take a champion he is no longer available to anyone else UNLESS you sell them back. Second, champions NEVER go back into the pool after you're defeated. You might wonder why that is. The reason for this is because as you progress through the stages they start to put different level champions into the rotations, which means they need to filter out all the previous champions, your chances of getting a stage 1-1 champion are around 50% at stage 1-1 and are around 10% at stage 3-1 and around 5% at stage 4-1, it keeps falling off the further it goes. The only low level champions that you'll see at the top tier levels are the ones that no one ever took, so they just keep rotating around and you see them as fillers.

What they said. There is a maximum of 10 Zeds in any match. When you make a Silver Zed, then only 9 are available. It is theoretically possible to have 4 Zed units on the board (2 Silver and 2 Bronze), but not more. (Because if you add a Zed, then you will have a Gold Zed, and only 1 free Zed remains in the game.)

What is not clear to me... it seems that these numbers are a maximum, but the full pool of units is not immediately available, and units are continually added until the pool is full.
