You typically so it for a few reasons.

  1. you want to continue your win streak by hitting more bonuses to set up mid game economy by winning outright in the early game and being ahead.

  2. You want to try and get a lucky 4 cost champion early in the game like a Draven to carry you for a bit. If you are on a win streak it is important to keep winning. You want to hit win streak gold and interest gold.

This game is punishing for people who are behind. Imagine being ahead on score because you bought xp early for an advantage, you got like Noble/knight buff with 5 champs on the board while everyone else is lvl4 and you built a locket or something early. You will straight up won till stage 4. Stack economy to 50+ gold.

Isn't the purpose of getting the buff or other units to ... win?

Either way its a stronger team to continue a win streak or keep you alive in the early game thanks to the outrageous dmg numbers people can get now especially with Elise.

If i need space, ill buy exp. If i need higher quality champions, ill rush exp. If im fishing for low tier Gunslingers, i usually avoid buying exp for any reason other than space.

I’ve started rushing level six and don’t itemize until krugs. Assuming you get at least one gold drop from the first three pve rounds and get a two cost from spawn carousel (to sell for two gold), you can always hit level 6 before round 3-1.

I don’t itemize or build a comp until that point, and if I lose the first few pvp rounds it just makes me more likely to get a useful item from carousel after 2-3. I don’t ignore comps and plan around my first few champ buys but I don’t settle on a comp until that point, generally because by then I can also determine what kind of comps everyone else is running and plan accordingly.

The entire purpose of why I do this is to rush a 4/5 cost unit and get it on the board while everyone else is still level four. If you can get a draven/akali/cho/etc out by 3-1 you get a huge powerspike.

Even if you have all one stars, there’s a huge chance that you can still overpower anyone with a star advantage on you.

It’s like a guaranteed 4th place or higher if you’re smart about it. It’s the easiest way I’ve found to climb ranked. You might not always get first but you’ll still get ranked xp.
