Is if the brain dead players (most of them) take the champions you need to fill their non existent team comp lmao. Its so annoying either build a comp or dont play you are griefing yourself and the game by picking up random heros hoping level 3's will actually beat a class (which it wont)

idk. i often find myself with a strong composition, and being lvl 8 vs lvl 5players. With a Force of Nature, and still losing to these RNG warriors that have been blessed with multiple 3star champions. Beating m, even though i have 4 more units than them on the field, usually 4/4 Ninja 6/6 assassin. And still lose /shrug.

The game is too RNG based, and 3stars do matter just as much as team comp, if not more.

You do know that's also part of the strategy, yes? If you take away things from enemies that's better for you. What would NOT be smart is letting your enemies build freely.

Also there are 7 other players, some are bound to be collecting the same champions as you. Not everyone will be going for, let's say Nobles, but they are collecting Rangers or Blademasters so they'll grab Vayne and Fiora.

A lot of units are individually good to the point where getting a lvl 2 version of them to sub in while you find the ones you want is perfectly fine....Having a lvl 2 Kass or Garen, Darius doesn't have to stay in the lineup the entire game but are tanky enough frontline units and only cost you 3 til you get the units you really want and sometimes people get stuck having little synergies so they just stick to the units they know that are strong even without buffs.
