How does TFT mmr work?

So I just played a game on TFT with a lower-ranked friend (he is silver 2 in TFT and I am gold 1 in TFT) and he came 8th place and I came 6th after some pretty shitty luck. After the game, I lost 39 lp and i asked him how much he lost and he said 10. I don't really know how the MMR works in TFT or if it is ever implemented, but I lose so much and earn so little and its prett frustrating, especially in a game based on luck (even if there are certain strats. Anyway i just wanna know what up with the mmr system. Thanks for reading.

  1. It gives different rewards based on your MMR vs the MMR you are playing against. If a Silver is playing in Gold, it's likely his penalty is going to be smaller.

  2. 10 doesn't sound right. I think he was trying to make you feel better.

  3. The more games you accrue, the less volatility to the LP awarded. In other words, at 10 games, a 1st place may be worth 80-50 LP, while a loss at 8th is worth - 40 -60. As your account matures, the win amounts become smaller (around 32-35) and the Loss amounts become larger (upwards of 80).

In other words, climb fast and hard if you don't want to play hundreds of games. Kind of like Summoner's Rift.
