Ways to improve TFT-Pros-Cons-Bugs
Edit:This is a long and whiny read. Take it with a grain of salt. :3
I'm a veteran with Auto Chess(rook+) and have played league for six years having multiple accounts in diamond, so hearing that league my favorite game of all time was going to make their rendition of the game mode, it was least to say I was ecstatic. HOWEVER, it has a lot of problems it needs to fix before it hits live and with the shape it's in now they've got a long way to go...Here's some things I think need to be added or changed to make it an overall better experience for everybody in just my day and a half of playing it.
The biggest problem is you need to increase INCOME in relation to how fast these games can go. Auto chess games could go for 40+ minutes yet TFT games are always less that 40. Yet you have the same income system. By time I save up enough to 50 gold for max interest we are almost in the end game, or if you attempt loss streak strategy you are almost dead by time you start turning things around. It doesn't make sense. Either decrease the damage per lose or increase income. Since it seems you want faster paced games which I agree can be nice if you are short on time then give more gold per round. However I do enjoy the long methodical games of auto chess as well, and winning is much more satisfying. Now here is the actual list in order of importance:
CONS:
- ITEMS ARE WAYYYYYYYYY TO POWERFUL TO BE RNG BASED. I get it's in testing but........If you want any sense of competitive the more RNG nonsense you put into it the more frustrating it is to a competitive scene. Go through the first three stages and get no ITEMS? Kill the black dragon and get 2 ITEMS? Or get NO ITEMS? Come on guys. Make units stronger, make synergies more rewarding, and make items weaker. Allow player skill to shine more in an already heavily RNG based gamed. Level 3 units don't feel nearly as good as a ridiculous item combination on certain broken units cough cough Brand cough DRRRAAAAVENNNNNN.
- AI IMPROVEMENT. Units don't attack what is right in front of their face. Oh this Kha'zix is chewing my face off better attack the garen 3 SPACES AWAY. To many times I have my units in back just sitting there not doing anything because they can't move or auto attack anything. They need to use ults more efficiently as well.
- ADD COOLDOWNS ON ULTIMATES. YOU GET MANA YOU ULT IMMEDIATELY AGAIN? BRAND IS CASE #1. Every game I snatch a brand I've won every game so far. Could be in last place have nothing going for me, but I get that guy, throw a few items on him, have a decent front line, get him to level 2 and GG. He ults CONSTANTLY and DESTROYS the enemy team. BOUNCES SIX TIMES? God forbid anyone ever gets a level 3 brand. 20 BOUNCES????????????????????????????? Kayle is another great case. I killed the entire enemy team besides her and she is getting her ult up so fast without a cooldown so she keeps ulting herself making her invulnerable forever. Luckily I eventually killed her but it was a glimpse of what could be for the future if you get the right items on her or get a level 2 kayle.
- When you cycle a draft of pieces.....DONT HAVE THE SAME PIECES SPAWN IN THE NEXT DRAFT AS THE LAST ONE THAT YOU DIDN'T PURCHASE. Auto chess implemented this change recently as you should too. It makes it so you don't keep cycling through the same pieces you don't need and gives you a much better chance of getting the ones you do need.
- Your units need to gain more mana from incoming damage. ESPECIALLY with shapeshifters. They die before they even get to ult. Level 1 don't even think about transforming. Level 2 you can ult most times and then die immediately and the pay off is poor. Gnar at least gets more health when he ults which is a bit better. The others don't and die almost immediately after ulting. In auto chess you get more mana from getting hit rather than auto attacks so you can put units in front that you want to ult right away for CC or AOE. Not with TFT the best way to get mana is throw an attack speed item on them. Makes sense.
- INCREASE BOARD SIZE. Not only will this give a higher skill cap to position it can show off unit abilities as well if you prioritize well. It should also give room for the backline pieces to move around so they don't bug and just sit there doing nothing.
- SHOW ITEM COMBINATIONS ADJKLS:AJFKLDJKLSAJKL.
- DPS METER PLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
- ALLOW US TO OVERPOPULATE THE BOARD. WE KNOW THE RISKS.
- HAVE A LIST OF ALL CHAMPIONS, with ALL info.
- Edit: The circle you are in now pulses to indicate where you are thank you. :) H̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶s̶o̶m̶e̶ ̶w̶a̶y̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶i̶n̶d̶i̶c̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶w̶e̶ ̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶s̶h̶a̶r̶e̶d̶ ̶d̶r̶a̶f̶t̶.̶ ̶S̶n̶a̶p̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶a̶m̶e̶r̶a̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶u̶s̶ ̶o̶r̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶n̶g̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶o̶l̶o̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶i̶r̶c̶l̶e̶.̶ ̶S̶O̶M̶E̶T̶H̶I̶N̶G̶.̶ ̶A̶N̶Y̶T̶H̶I̶N̶G̶.̶ ̶B̶y̶ ̶t̶i̶m̶e̶ ̶I̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶d̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶I̶ ̶a̶m̶ ̶i̶f̶ ̶I̶'̶m̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶l̶a̶s̶t̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶c̶e̶ ̶I̶'̶m̶ ̶a̶l̶r̶e̶a̶d̶y̶ ̶r̶e̶l̶e̶a̶s̶e̶d̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶n̶ ̶s̶c̶r̶a̶m̶b̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶l̶o̶o̶k̶s̶i̶e̶s̶ ̶a̶t̶ ̶a̶l̶l̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶m̶p̶i̶o̶n̶s̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶i̶t̶e̶m̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶y̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶d̶e̶c̶i̶d̶e̶ ̶w̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶I̶ ̶w̶a̶n̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶p̶i̶c̶k̶
- Indicate when we will be released in shared draft. COUNTDOWN TIMER. COLOR CHANGE. ANTYHING.
- LET US MOVE THE CAMERA AROUND. Stop locking it to the board or at least give the option to unlock it. I get you have some assets hidden in your lower left hand board but this would be a nice quality of life change.
- Show what kind of damage champion ults inflict, so we know how to itemize them.
- Buff Mordekaiser, dude is a menace in solo que but pathetic in TFT compared to his brethren garen and darius. I guess you can argue he has the phantom buff which is pretty nice but you could opt out of him and go for kindred karthus combo instead and have a better front line overall by going with Sejuani who is SO MUCH STRONGER than even a level 3 mord just at level 2.
- Noble is to strong early game-Another post already touched on this but I agree. Unless you're trying to go for a goblin/mech-esk type early game like auto chess that you eventually work out of or build into sometimes then by all means keep it.
- Buff level 3 units. It feels like they just get more health and maybe some more damage if you don't put any items on them. They just end up living through all the abilities of your opponent and then have a wet noodle fight at the end with the other units that survived. The jump from level 1 to 2 feels pretty nice and makes a significant impact. That can't be said for level 3.
- Don't snap us to the back of the circle in shared draft. Just have us stop when we hit the edge. With how slow our wittle feet go we lose valuable seconds if some poor soul snaps to the back of the circle right when they are released and they miss out on that sweet unit or item.
- Kassadin is very strong. The rich mans anti-mage. Not only does he steal a ridiculous amount of mana but he gets a shield on top of it. At least with anti-mage if you had enough incoming damage your unit could sometimes ult. NOT WITH QUASSIDIN.
- The beginning shared draft needs to be longer. You pop in way to slow and then move to slow. Then it gives you a random unit if you don't choose a unit in time. For most people the first game they play the assets take to long to load and it skips the beginning draft altogether and throws them straight into it with a random dude.
- Shared drafts are for ITEMS. I like the idea but right now I've been using it for items more than anything. Items are stronger than getting a level 3 unit so I go for those tasty spatulas and get an extra unit for synergy instead of rushing to a unit I need for a level 3 piece.
- DISABLE PINGS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. We can already express ourselves through our little legend we don't need to hear spam pings 24/7.
- Give units overall more health in my opinion, this change isn't necessary. They die way to quickly and you don't even understand what is happening half the time with all the fighting that is going on. No idea which units we should be prioritizing, should I buy a blitzcrank to grab the OP unit in back, but it won't even matter because the dumb AI won't even attack what is right in front of them? It's chaos. Tanks don't feel like tanks, assassins are better than ranged easily because there is no positioning to protect your squishy units.
Overall if this game is going to be released 06/25/19 it has so much to be improved on. With the state it's in right now I'd still prefer to play auto chess over this solely because the items are to powerful for them to be RNG. The income system could be touched on as well and that would make it more enjoyable.
GIVEN all my complaints there are some things that TFT has that I really enjoy over Autochess. Here are a few of those things.
PROS:
- Synergies are easier to pull off and change vs. Auto Chess. You can get instant synergies going that have immediate pay off. A lot of synergies only require you to have 2 units to make them work. This is a breath of fresh air compared to certain synergies you start in auto chess that will never work if you don't get the right pieces and can ruin the whole run when you're in too deep and it's far too late.
- SERVERS ARE SO MUCH BETTER. Even if it is PBE and we have to wait 3+ hours in queue. Still get amazing ping every time once I am in. So much better than some of the horribly laggy games that dota has.
- Moving pieces is much faster and snap very pleasingly. They don't jump around the board and your macroing can be much faster. It feels much more responsive.
- Love the little legends and all they en-tale, and actually being on the board with whoever you are facing. Nothing feels quite so good like facing your rival and strutting across the board as your team annihilates them and dabbing with pengu on everything he loves and holds dear. Meanwhile they can be emoting with you and it feels much more real than just the fake placeholder avatar of your opponent. Please make more little legends and more rare skins. They are adorable. I wish however did the splash arts had more time to work on them.
- Hopefully has a HUGE development team working on it to create more champions, bugfixes, and balancing issues. Verses one guy in auto chess and whatever company he is working with now. I'd really like to see the game reach its potential. If any company has the means it would be riot. Well....Hmm.....
- The shared draft is a cool concept and it feels much more like a party game or community is cool but it needs to be optimized badly.
BUG FIXES:
- Kindred ult is hella bugged.
- Was playing with a friend yesterday who got hit twice from getting defeated by me. As in he took the full damage from his lose and then a second later it happened again almost one shotting him for around 60ish HP. Was definitely a bug.
- LEVEL 3 UNITS NOT FINISHING COMBINING. Multiple times I've had this happen where I'll finally get that last piece I need and it'll combine into a level 2 unit and start combining into a level 3 unit only to be stopped from the next round starting. Then I have to wait for the fight to be over and then combine it into a level 3. This could be a win or lose situation on that level 3 unit please allow them to combine all the way even when the next round is starting.
- Brand ult will randomly dissappear.
- Beginning shared draft sometimes doesn't load immediately(usually first time loading will just jump to board) and will just pick a random character while booting you to the board before you even knew what happened.
- Tristana places bomb on random unit then doesn't auto it or autos very little.
I understand it's early testing but I still feel like this was really rushed with such obvious things being allowed through. I hope they can fix a lot of it before it hits live but being a small game mode with so much else going on with summoner's rift I feel like it's going to be released half @#$ed and won't be touched unless it brings some money in. I see a lot of potential in it and hopefully some Riot employees see this and can use it for good towards the game. I really wanna like this game mode but it's more frustrating and without as much pay off as Auto Chess currently. You just find the most broken combinations and abuse them to win.
This game mode could be the next battle royal. It could be bigger. Don't you wanna say you were at the forefront in history in creating this Riot? We're better than this.
