Olaf Lv2 w/ Glacial (2) Berserker (3) on 3 teams, this wasn't even a long game, I was eliminated pretty early.

This is not the worst example, only the latest one. Glacial/Berserker combo is:

  • Too powerful
  • Too easy to achieve
  • Too dynamic to be locked out of entirely
  • Olaf is bulls***

You've already established that freezing is very unsatisfying for the frozen player. But sure, glacial needs this to give them time to do damage. I get it, that's fine. But on plenty of glacials, this isn't an issue due to their other synergies.

Voli - pairs with Ornn to unlock Electric and proc damage off his crit chance and auto-attack comps. Also gains duplicate access to Berserker thanks to Olaf. Berserker synergy gives too much impact to the battlefield allowing auto-attacks to freeze multiple opponents. Increasing damage potential beyond the justifying reasons for glacial's existence. Oh yeah, and his chain ability - and the absolutely amazing range at which this prick can bite people - is ridiculous.

WW - pairs with pred comp to gain access to execution threshold, also has an auto-attack ability that can proc that execution. Berserker axe also makes him way too overpowered since he can form the berserker synergy with just Voli and Olaf.

Ezrael - ranged freezing effect (the only one) high damage potential on ranger teams - which you've already voiced as something you are wanting to strengthen (meaning that your future changes to benefit rangers would likely have the effect of this issue becoming worse) With minimal itemization he can provide the core damage of a team in the mid-game or even late-game with the right items.

Braum - Actually I don't have a problem with Braum. The glacial augment makes sense for him given his limited damage potential. Still pairing with him gives access to Warden synergy - giving Warden (2) Electric (2) and Glacial (2) with only Voli and Ornn

Olaf - auto attack damage AND attack speed potential with berserker synergy and self-healing all while having the ability to freeze... disgusting. Revolting with even minimal itemization. A war crime with full itemization. The fact he hasn't been gutted in a patch by now is pretty demoralizing :(

The glacial effect itself only needs 2 champs to activate, so realistically you can't be locked out of it - it's also the only offensive 2-unit synergy that can be created with an item - the only other 2-unit synergy for an item is Warden, which as a rule would practically require further itemization to make much use of. Further, Glacial champs have too much access to either overpowered synergies (berserker/predator), or low-cost synergies (warden/electric/ranger)

With this much synergy access and this much damage potential, the entire purpose of the glacial synergy ability is kinda moot. The only glacial champ benefiting in the way you have stated you intend is Braum - and possibly Warwick.

Even if you don't agree with my belief that Olaf needs to be gutted, please take these into consideration.

Won't "fix" the issue, but some maybe these could help? Not suggesting to do all of them, but a combo of a few:

  • Raise synergy floor for glacial from 2 to 3, increase the next step to 6 so it would require an item to achieve
  • Give ranged glacial champs 1/4 the base chance for glacial effect, or only on abilities
  • Remove the ability to craft Frozen Mallet
  • If you won't remove Olaf, remove either his self heal or AS boost. His current ability to use these + glacial violate your own reasoning behind glacial on a fundamental level. Or just remove Olaf from the glacial synergy entirely.
  • Maybe give Braum a small cut to mana cost to make up for any glacial changes effecting his utility, or even a small boost to his base armor so he can better utilize his Warden synergy

I do believe in giving the good with the bad, so in closing, I really do enjoy the game - I do think it's pretty fun and enjoyable and I like the fact that people in general are much less toxic. I love the design and the UI is fairly intuitive. Also despite my issues, I think other changes you guys have made have been pretty good for the direction you've said you want to design TFT in - I just strongly feel that this is an area of concern that countermands what you've said.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk, Me

Nerf Glacial, not Olaf. Or, preferably, both. But Glacial needs it more. Riot still doesn't seem to understand how AS interacts with on-hit chance.

. . .

Just for fun, Lets look at a 2 glacial, 2-star Olaf with no items, since he's the most complained about (And has internal AS scaling with Ragnarok that we can use to demonstrate AS's impact).

Olaf AS: 0.85 -> 1.7 / 2.215 / 3.4

20% chance to stun for 1.5 seconds at 2.215 attacks per second ; convert to 3.3225 attacks per 1.5 seconds. So 3 attacks gives a 1 - [(0.8)^3] = 0.488.

So an ulting Olaf with No items has an almost 49% chance to stun a target again before the previous stun ends.

  • A 4 glacial, 2-star Olaf would have a 35% chance to stun on-hit, giving him an {1 - [(0.65)^3] = 0.725375} approximately 73% chance to re-stun.
  • A 6 glacial 2-star Olaf with 50% proc chance will have a re-stun chance of {1 - [(0.5)^3] = 0.875} almost 88%.
  • A 2-glacial, 3 star Olaf (Good luck) with 5.1 attacks per 1.5 seconds would have an {1 - [(0.8)^5] = 0.67232} approximately 67% chance to re-stun a target.
  • A 4 glacial, 3-star Olafwill have a re-stun chance of {1 - [(0.65)^5] = 0.8839709375‬} about 88%.
  • Heaven forbid, you get 6 glacial 3-star olaf {1 - [(0.5)^5] = 0.96875}. Almost 97% chance they will never move.

I think instead of flat out nerfs they should just make like 1 or 2 units more rare. Renekton for example should be the same price as Amumu.

Yeah its still pretty strong even tho they nerfed it, the issue imo is the glacial side of it tho and then the berserker buff to aoe stun tho glacial olaf is one of the things decently keeping blender nocturn comps down which is a good thing. the new quicksilvers changes next patch should be fairly decent for it.. but i can still see it being a massive issue in the future just simpy due to how glacial works. even tho it fits the nature of the elements its disgusting to see glacial make it through from the last set
