The Spatula Issue

So I've been thinking over what Spatula has been bringing to this game, and while it's great that it can be used to fiill roles, I think the current problem is people only focus on it specifically for the +1 army size. While you can beat a team that attempts that, it's still a pretty heavy thing to deal with especially with some CC comps. So I have a few suggestions to make Spatula just a little more fair all around.

  • Remove Spatula from the roulette. This is not an item that should ever be part of the roulette as it just promotes people purposely tanking their hp to gain gold income and be the first one to grab a Spatula from it. It should be moved as an auto drop from at least 1 specific neutral (Dragon most likely).

  • Spatula is no longer a recipe item, but a standalone item that fills in a +1 slot to any trait. So if you have 3 Wilds, it could fill in for your 4th. What it fills in for would be determined on your highest trait. So if you're going Gunslinger/Wild and have 2 Gunslingers but 3 Wilds, it would fill in for the Wild. If you're already maxed out on Wild trait, it would instead give it to your Gunslinger.

I think both of these changes would make several traits more easily playable near the end game rounds and also reduce some of the RNG issue of trying to find specific champs to fill that role

I think it works fine as is. It gives 0 stats otherwise. There are times where it is useable and times where it is not. I see lots of teams win without ever getting one. If it was on every winning team then maybe. It is a strong play, but i dont think any stronger than some of the sword or bow combos.

people who use it for the +1 army size instead of making a unit insane are dumb as shit

people are tunneling on the spatula and are not making any use of it because they don't know what to do with it and instead of getting something useful that can make your carry not lose you the game... because lets face it if you get to the spatula you are already pretty much clueless... they are instead getting an item that sits on their stash tab and do absolutely nothing with it until they lose the game

the spatula is a mid late game item and instead people are taking it first rounds like it's some hot shit that will win them the game

Ok so let me look at it this way then. Exactly how many of those other spatula combinations are actually used much? I can only think Ninja, Sorc and Glacial (Not counting Hurricane) are the only ones used that often, and even then it's minimal at best, because people choose to go for the RNG roll in units rather than use the Spatula to make their fill-in unit. The overall mechanic of it is just poor right now, and it also is leaving out many other traits, like Gunslinger/Ranger from it even being an option.

The spatula is potentially the worst item to obtain. You have to waste 2 roulette turns for an additional champ which often requires you to waste more room on the bench. This is all for a slight passive bonus where most are worse than items themselves. In fact, gold, items and champion tiers are far more important than passives in most situations. When a spatula is combined with another item, you essentially waste two items for a passive boost and potentially assist that champion. Which again, most of the time is not worth it.

Unlike the other auto-chess games, passives aren't as important as they should be, so spatulas are mostly useless. You suggestion could potentially make it worth it, but it should still be found on the roulette.

remove from carrousel round I can agree wth, but not to use it to autofill like that, the game doesn't know what your going for, you might have a wild in there as a fillerwhen youre really going for a demon comp. I like that you need to pair it to get what YOU want.

Except that it was the synergies that won those games, I had crap to no items both games and I didnt have any 3 star. And 1 of the two games was a glacial ranger with multiple area CC champs.

Just won another this time with the most absurd synergies due to spatulas. Couldn't get items worth crap except spatulas and Rod, and not a single 3star, and a 3 one star champs. I got up to grab a drink and the game loaded too fast and so I started with spatula on a blitz from default....I was near dead half way through the game and couldnt get much rolling, until the spatulas dropped. Multiple teams had that cheap tactic of loading up their one champ and I still stomped them. In the end I had Full Sorc bonus, Full Wild Bonus, Full shapeshifter bonus, 3 yordle bonus, and dragon bonus. And had two of my champs turned into Sorcs who were not normally (4 spatulas total) 2 sorcs that shouldnt have been and a team size bonus.

You can say what you will but the spatula is strong enough that if you can't get all the items you want it allows synergies that can crash those items.

Spatulas are not just about increasing numbers, their also about allowing passive combos that you normally wouldn't be able to fit on a team, making the team extra strong. You are saying these passives dont matter, but with the spatula they do because you can stack them in freakish ways. I didn't need a SoS on my casters, cause I had a wild bonus that had them shooting like machine guns, and because some of my frontline were faking as sorcs with spatulas, I still had a front line that gave them the time to clear, and just for fun the extra space the spatula gave me I threw Karthus in which made it even more nuts.

I guess with what I have seen so far, it is a top tier item, not "potentially the worst item to obtain" as you call it. It helps teams overload. Is it a guaranteed win? No, nothing is a guarantee in TFT's craziness, but it puts teams over the edge IF used well.
