Which brainiac at riot decided that the amount of Items you get be RNG?

goodiesohhi··89 votes·16,563 views

I don't care how DAC did it but. Really? Any 2 items make a full item in this game. And a person with a full item vs someone w/o one is almost guranteed to win that first round. RNG is fine in games but it should decide what tools you have to work with, not how many tools you have. Someone shouldn't just get more than someone else because rng.

I understand its not about RNG but it should be more about positioning and not buffing one unit so that they carry the game this isn't solo q lol.

Meanwhile 2nd place made it their with only 2 stars... what bad RNG for him

I've only ever seen Tristana being able to do that. I've beaten several comps because they put all their gold in 1 unit while the rest of their team is basically just cannon fodder to feed me ults.

Kind of hard to adapt when there's nothing to adapt with.

There was a time, long ago, when people could recognize bleeding obvious sarcasm without /s

Unfortunately we now live in a world where people may unironically say something like that and mean it.

Few rounds in and I'm facing a vayne with a Bloodthirster and Rageblade, yet all I have is the chain vest my first shen came with.

That's not fun.

It's not RNG items, they're surprise stat checks.

Getting no items in the first 3 rounds is the TFT equivalent of getting a wukong mid OTP in your promos to diamond.

Who decides ahri mid is too much of a counter and goes top to soak exp instead.

It's definitely heavy on the RNG. I've had multiple games where the creep fodder rounds gave me nothing at all. I've also had rounds where I had 2 and 3 full sets of champs 1 1 star away from getting them 3 star before the end of stage 2 and I lose because the game never gives me the last one I need. All of this while I watch other people WITH THE SAME CHAMP getting 2 and 3 stars left and right.

That's your answer and honsetly i don't know why tf Underlords and TFT doesn't point this out. THE SHOP IS SHARED among all players. If you see someone else with the champ that you're trying to get to 3, at 3, you're prolly SoL for anything beyond a 1 cost unit. There are enough 1 cost units in the pool that maaaaaybe 2 people can get 3 stars but 2 costs is slim 3 cost forget about 2 people having the same 3 cost 3 star champ and 4 cost? you don't even get one of those to 3.

The shop is shared? As in, the shop to pick up champs in? That is pretty bad game design. Is this an attempt to "prevent meta TFT comps?" Not gonna lie, I really do think that's why it's even a thing, but still. On top of that, I have noticed that certain champs you can get early aren't ever in the shop (mainly Rek'sai). Might just be me, but sometimes my computer doesn't load in fast enough so it auto-selects a champ (again, mainly Rek'sai). I never really see her in the shop. Only got her to 2 stars once, and that was by the end of round 3.

Yes the shop is shared among all players it's been that way since the original custom mod as to why, probably to DECREASE rng, since you can get a general idea of whats viable to buy and yes also in order to eliminate "meta comps" aka going into each game with a build in mind , thats not the spirit of autochess. To many people are unaware of this and i get a custom mod you join lobbys to play can't exactly make this apparent but Underlords and TFT really shoulda have spotlighted this information considering the number of people calling the game "RNG" (i mean TFT is heavilly rng based but in the item department, not champions)

CertainlyT designed the item system

Like honestly anything combining into anything seems like a good concept until you consider the fact they didn't change how often drops happen compared to a normal autochess game.

So yeah the most powerful aspect of TFT turns out to be the one CT was responsible for lol

Of fucking course. Ghostcrawler, and CertainlyT have literally been a goddamn plague upon this game inflicting far, FAR, FAR more harm than any fucking good that's come from them so much as looking at this game. They should have never been hired in the first place, and sure as fuck fired a long ass time ago, I mean FFS.

I feel like the "Items build into other items by combos" is really neat.

But "there's a chance you just don't get anything at all, ever, for any reason" is uhh...incredibly bad.

There needs to be a guaranteed number of items everyone gets, with a slight RNG element for one or two extras. I should not be on round 3 of PvP with a chain vest while my opponent blasts me apart with Statik.

worlok10254 votes

Yeah they for sure need to take a page out of the DAC book with that cause I think that it doesn't make sense like you said that two items make a full item. I think that I understand that riot doesn't want the games to be long but I think that they need to kiss that goodbye. They need to rework the items but I think that people at a high level have complained enough about it that it will get looked at.

I mean, I played 3 so far and I wasn't in a game shorter than 30-40 minutes, so wdym they don't want games to be long?

The RNG should be equal for everyone If it's gonna be RNG for everyone, then ALL players should have equal amount of items and item gains no matter how much random they are. That seems fair.

several people know me, im quick to support anyone that complains about riots brainless decisions, but give them some slack, its still IN BETA.

while it does suck, i guess the amount of feedback they got will make changes

I don't think I've gotten a guaranteed 1 item every time. You might get 10. or 2. or 3. or nothing xDx

not really. It's nothing like draft, because everyone gets the same amount of cards in a draft. It would be like if someone was able to grab 4 cards from a pack, then you got skipped completely and weren't able to pick any.

mack91121 votes

You might open the pack that has the legendary plainswalker or you might get some useless card.

You might the great item or something subpar.

The game has a lot of depth and I’m excited to see where it goes.

The parallel to that in TFT would be getting a golden spatula vs getting like a tear. But more often than not, some players will get absolutely nothing or far fewer items than people they're playing against, so it's not like a card game draft. While what you get in draft is (relatively) random, everyone is guaranteed to get the same number of cards.

mack91121 votes

And some people will get cards that have zero value.

In the games I have played the items I got from lower levels was ideal with the mistakes made where in my end not combining said items correctly so when it went pvp the opponent felt stronger which I am confident is 80% of the complaints on here.

Once I actually figured out the correct build paths the game felt a lot more consistent.

even a card you don't need is something though. I've had games where I didn't get a single item drop from minions or krugs, while one of the players I was against got 6 items. I don't see any way to defend that. If the only way for it to be balanced is to hope the lucky player is terrible at the game and will make mistakes that counter their extreme advantage, that's really not any kind of reasonable balance.

mack91121 votes

I have not experienced a single game like that if i do I will let you know.

It's fortunate that you haven't, but I assure you it happens. That even being a possibility is why making is pure rng is a terrible idea.

mack91121 votes

If those situations do occur I am confident it is a bug

Yets42401 votes

My first two games I didn't get a single component drop until round 14, and round 6 respectively.

The first game I legitimately got 2 components from carousel, and had a single tear drop before I was eliminated as the 7th ranked player.

mack91121 votes

I honestly have never seen myself or somebody in my games experience that

Classtoise1 votes

If every player drafted from the same pile of cards, and everyone had to share the limited lands that were offered, maybe.

An ACTUAL draft style would be great. Shared shop feels like nothing more than a way to half-ass the champion selection.

mack91121 votes

But you do draft from the same selection it is simply random.

They have already committed to normalizing item drops so what is the issue ?

Gubaguy1 votes

I would say that items shoudl jsut be removed altogether, but then people would jsut complain about people who hoard champions once they have some unbeatable setup, I.E. The guy who always forces 3 assassins with multiple tanks who then takes all the glacial/yordle upgrades so NO ONE can beat them, instead of jsut buying the upgrades they need.
