Little Legends Damage

What determines Little Legend damage after a loss or tie exactly? What are all the factors involved? I'm tired of having over 20 hp left, assume that I can survive another loss, get beat by the enemy with 3 or 4 champs left and take 21 damage when, earlier in the game, I'd have taken about 10.
