Time (Maybe) Problem After Wolfs
I hope this is the right board for this, so apologies if this should be elsewhere in the forum.
There are quite a few issues behind this one, but partly they are just part of the game and I also seen them addressed enough, like the randomness and all that. So what I noticed is that I most often die and end up 8th or 7th place one or two rounds after wolfs - the one right after being the special problem the way I see it, because mostly when I manage to get past that point I end up in the top three or four places. I try to explain the problem now and why it might improve the game to change something about this, be it directly or indirectly. But lets say you don't get any good champions in the first few rounds - good in the sense of good enough to at least not loose every round. What are your options there? Spent gold for rerolls? Well, if that doesn't work out, you end up even more behind later, so I think it is better to save the gold and at least don't spent too much on rerolls, while trying to work on your later champ setup with what pops up. The items you get play a role there as well, since it can make a big difference which items you make and on which champs you put them, so it is often also a good idea to not make any items yet or place them on a champ that is no ideal for them that you will sell later. All of which will make you loose health points, especially if your opponents had much better luck with their champs and drops and just stomp you. But being behind means being among the first to pick in the circle rounds, which helps the saving for later.
The round after wolves seems like the best to start switching builds - or refining it if you already been lucky before. So if you been behind, that is when you get to switch gears - you got a lot of gold saved now for rerolls to hopefully fill in enough for a working setup with the champs you saved on the bench and the wolves item drops, when you are really behind, is when you gotta make some decisions to make some items to equip those champs, even if not ideal.
Here comes to problem. For wolves, you gotta change the placement on the board and put them all in the middle, especially if you have a weak setup, or they wolves will beat you. That means that after that round, you first off all have to change back the placement. Which takes a few seconds. Then you got to reroll to find champs to complement your benched setup that is to become active now and to level them up. Which also takes some time, and because you are in a hectic there, having to quickly scan five champs each time, it is also easy to miss one you need. Then those champs need to be placed on the board, which can also mean, having to decide which ones to keep for now. Again, takes time. And then you have to maybe also equip them, meaning having to decide on which items to make and whom to give them. Which also takes time.
If things are going fine there is no problem there, because there is no pressure to change anything - like if you are still winning at least enough with your starter setup even and have plenty of health left. In that case it is easy to comfortably browse bit by bit through the available champs and decide on the items. But not if you know another defeat will kill you.
Now, this is why I believe this could be good for the game to change this. The randomness of champions, okay, part of the game and I don't really see a good option to make that aspect better, the randomness of the item drops and sometimes just getting gold the first four monster rounds, okay, I wish it was more like the DOTA variation and everyone would get at least the same amount of items - and I really hope this will be changed, but it is as it is now, so also okay. But not having enough time after the wolves - taking the hits and saving up gold is a way to counter that randomness and dying because I then don't have enough time takes the fun out of it. In the first round you get ten seconds to "prepare", when you don't have to do anything there - you can be afk until the first round finished even, as you get a random champ anyway that will be placed on the battlefield automatically, so that's just unnecessary wait time for nothing - which holds true for all three first rounds, as you don't need that much time to decide on which of five champs to buy, when you don't have enough gold for rerolls anyway. But later on, when you need that time, there is often not enough - not just after wolves, but in the later rounds when only three or four people are left and you try to adapt or complete your setup.
Possible solutions would be to increase the time and maybe add a "ready" button, so when no one needs that time people don't have to wait until it is run out - or to indirectly increase the time, by reducing the health you loose in the first X rounds, since that would increase the number of rounds in which you can just take hits to work on your setup - and that would also counter that randomness factor, as the main reason you are taking big hits is because you didn't have as much luck as the others with the champs, which is mainly an issue at the beginning, IF you can counter it by taking hits and saving gold AND have time enough to actually use that.
Well, I hope I am not the only one who sees this as a problem - have a good day :)
