TT Meta?

What's the meta in TT like?

Two of my friends and I would really like to start playing threes together and have a ranked team, but we don't really know what the meta is like. My buddy hasn't played it regularly in a long while, so the meta's bound to have changed.

Get a tank... 2 basic metas in 3s, Jungle and support. While the support meta, you duo lane, and anything that has synergy will work, a tank is probably most beneficial. Same with the jungle meta. I like to use offensive junglers, however my team has had a lot of succession with people like Sejuani and Maokai in the jungle. Cinderhulk is just too good right now. Any other questions or opinions, feel free to add me in game "SWAG Gooby" and ask away.

As someone who's played TT since season 2, and has easily 2000+ games on that map, I suggest avoiding it. Riot doesn't even pretend to give a shit about it, and "universal" changes continue to go unchanged on that map. I'll spare you my rage, but I suggest not even bothering.

If you do plan on continuing, I'll help you with that. The usual team is a fighter, a mage, and a jungler. The jungler can be any role, but is usually strong and/or tanky. Lee Sin, Xin, Maokai, and Yi are common junglers. The fighter usually goes top, but this isn't a set meta like marksman and supports bot lane in SR. Either laner can go to either lane. Champs should either be strong early, or strong late. Mid game champs like Vlad and Shen're back picks, as they have little time to shine. Games in 3s either end quickly, or go to full build. Common fighters're Darius, Renekton, or Pantheon, who have incredibly powerful early games, and can transition into a tank if the game lasts too long and they begin to fall off in terms of damage. Common mages are Annie, Syndra, and Lissandra due to how quickly they become a threat. I personally play Anivia there, since you level up much faster (levels only require 80% of the exp that they do in 5s, and lanes're shorter on top of this). Just be prepared for a extremely aggressive early game builds that fall off, but don't plan on having games last even 20 minutes. Mages starting with two Doran's Rings and all flat runes is common, and can easily have 50+ AP at level 1.

Another important note: glass and pure tank builds are a big no no unless you have a team built around them. Marksmen are typically bad picks, and supports are also rare. Even if you're playing someone like Maokai, I HIGHLY suggest having a tanky AP build, consisting of items like item 3027, item 3170, item 3065, item 3110, item 3001, etc. I would never have a build like item 3110item 3143item 3065item 3102item 3068 unless I'm Rammus and I have a melee ADC like Tryn, Yasuo, or Yi to bring insane damage to make up for my utter lack of it.

Summary: Focus on builds with either strong early games, or late games. Plan on having either only one/two items, or a full build. You must almost always have a combo of offense and defense, even on champs who would be glass or a pure tank in 5s. Don't expect Riot to update even the simplest of things like item recipes to reflect changes in items.

Maokai, J4 / Renekton, Annie team is stupid strong. Wukong is also super popular, dash in do some damage and invis out, such a small map it leaves little room to punish him. Pretty much anybody who can be built with damage and tank is gonna wreck face.
