Why Alternate Game Modes (and New Maps) Need to STAY!

TLDR: IMHO The more options a game has the more fun it is and the more longevity it has. More champs, more maps and most importantly more game modes (in that order). Riot is ignoring the two most important factors in making their game more fun and more fun longer by sticking to the same old maps and game modes they've had for years.

If you've decided you want to stick around and read WHY I feel that way...

I've been playing LoL for years. YEARS (3-4+). Less and less as time goes on but what keeps me coming back? New, exciting content. New things to do. I use LoL to destress/zone out after a day's work, and having something fun to do for 30m to an hour is awesome.

But what makes LoL fun? In order of fun-ness (from least to greatest):

  1. LEAST importantly new champs
  2. new maps
  3. MOST importantly NEW GAME MODES.

I've read the arguments against keeping new game modes. Honestly, and in my humble opinion, I think they're all hogwash. And for the simple reason that keeping all of those game modes makes the game more FUN. I understand balance needs to be maintained, but we're talking throwaway game modes that don't NEED to be balanced because by definition they're optional/alternate. If you don't like it that Champion X is OP on Map Y, then play a different game mode/different map. Riot can simply inform the community with Big Glowing Boxes of Notification that they are ONLY going to be balancing champs for default game modes and any complaints due to perceived imbalances for alternate/throwaway game modes will be ignored.

Basically I understand it probably comes down to this: how does Riot monetize LoL? Champs. The more champs the more monetization possibilities (skins, etc.) However, the more champs the more time needed to keep them balanced. The more time needed to keep champs balanced the LESS time available to add new maps and new game modes. The less new maps and game modes the less fun the game becomes over time (because you've done it ALL so many times).

But if you had LESS champs you'd have to spend LESS time balancing and could then spend MORE time adding things that would bring more fun and more longevity to the game. Not saying to reduce the roster, of course not. But maybe spend less time on creating new champs and more time on the maps and game modes....

And finally of course this brings up the subject of how Riot couldn't monetize LoL if they reduce the very source of monetization (new champs) that allows them to keep providing us this awesome game. I realize that. Perhaps other sources of monetization would need to be looked into, but that's the subject of another thread. Although I for one would be willing to pay $ for new maps and game modes. Come on, if you had to pay for example $0.99 to be able to play URF? No brainer. And with the millions and millions of players Riot has...all I'm saying is that IF monetization is the reason they won't take the time to permanently give us new maps and game modes they DO have other options.

Thank you for your time.

They have reasons for not making all the featured game modes permanent. Read up on it #here

In a perfect world, everybody would be united to keep urf around and tell riot why their reasons are moronic. Too bad 90% of the population here are reddit reject sycophants who just regurgitate riot's bullshit excuses while still buying loads of RP despite all the terrible moves. There's no reason not to keep urf, it's just a bullshit excuse, they don't have to balance it, just put a sign on it saying "this mode is unbalanced but fun, play at your own risk" or something. Too bad nothing will change when in this backward ass world, the people wanting more variety in this stale ass video game are demonized and downvoted by these bootlickers.
