This is not a complaint, I am just curious why Yorick was singled out for removal from Ascension mode, as I have never seen him played before his removal. Was it because his ult was glitched or an exploit?

Yeah, there's a bug with Yorick's ult and Ascension. The status message is phrased like that to get into the spirit of the Shurima event a bit.

Follow-up question: Why don't you guys get to reworking Yorick ASAP so he doesn't FUBAR any more game modes? ;)

And, while you're at it, get him a new wardrobe, too! Those old skins of his are getting moldy!

Pentakill Yorick is fairly cool. Some things just age well and Pentakill skins are one of them. : )

Cool, yes. Riot got lucky there. Still, he's the oldest champion without a new skin since his release and his long delayed Upgrade is the reason why.

Is this a better strategy than actually fixing the bug, or is it just too messy of a problem considering the timeline?

Also, and maybe more importantly, considering that this is a lore based event, does that mean that Yorick being obliterated by Xerath is cannon within the new lore retcon?

It's obviously not a better strategy than actually fixing the bug, but they clearly can't wait 2-3 days for a game-breaking bug to be elegantly fixed. The quick fix is to remove Yorick from the gamemode, and then there's less pressure to solve the problem immediately and he can be put back into the gamemode once all is well.

Why is Yorick's ult so buggy? The amount of bugs that have come up from his ult should make him a prime suspect for crashes during testing.

Honestly why doesn't Riot remake/rewrite his ult so it's more stable? If that's possible at least.

From what I understand if you killed the Ascended Yorick Ghost, it didn't count as Xerath dying, so he would never respawn.

As far as i knew the problem was instead if the ghost did not get killed: his despawning was not counted as death so Xerath could never rerise again. However, it can be both cases.
