Why Does Riot refuse to fix Purple/Red's side of summoners rift?!

Star Twister··12 votes·4,373 views

Playing from Purple/red side of summoners rift is a HUGE disadvantage! For starters the handicap forced on Purple team by having the HUD blocking the the part of the screen that blue team is going to be coming into range, you can't see them until well after they can see you, effectively Red team has to play dragging a bush for Blue team around with them constantly. Speaking of bushes with the exception of being in bot lane blue side players are partially obstructed by bushes when the emerge from the top side of the bush, which again favors Blue team because of the split second purple players may not be able to make out exactly which player is coming out which may cause them to make a big mistake like rocket grabbing an Amumu. This is by far the EASIEST PROBLEM TO FIX, simply allowing players to rotate the camera around on preset angles so that they can get the same angle on the game as blue team, or for what ever reason blue could get purples camera angle.

The harder issue to fixe would be the disadvantageous jungle positioning, Blue side has access to the back of the dragon pit allowing for a much safer place to contest Dragon from should purple be doing it where purple only has the option to com into the pit from the front where they have no cover. While the this same advantage is afforded to Red team in regards to Barron however this can often be muted by blue team taking Dragon's either by killing it outright or by stealing from over the wall blue will have a better chance of bullying red team out of the baron area effectively negating the advantage. This problem is a bit harder to tackle but perhaps making players inside dragon/baron pit be able to see the area outside the pit as if the wall wasn't there, giving that kind of vision could help even the odds and allow people in the pit to fight back more easily, after all they took the risk of in the pit first they shouldn't be punished for it by a sneaky ninja smite.

Personally I've never had a problem playing either side.

good for you then if they implement this you don't have to flip your camera it would be optional for those of us less able to use unlocked screen in combat.

you havn't mastered using unlocked screens in fights...?

I never have problems on either side of the map.

I don't know, I can't play champions like Xerath and Kog'maw on red team at all. It's just too obnoxious keeping track of myself and the enemy on unlocked camera. Clearly the Baron and the Dragon don't really matter but the whole aiming thing does bother me. This new map made it better though and had things become clearer. Now I can play adc on red team without crying. Locked screen is a curse but I'd rather just play melee champions than play with unlocked.

well riot has given the solution with the unlocked camera and the game is suppose to be played with an unlocked camera and a locked camera is made more for the benefit for those who can't play with unlocked camera. Why make a map more complex that takes more internet to use and will slow the servers down for the minority of the players who insist on using a locked camera also most of the minority of players won't implement the changes to switch the camera. Because just like how the players can't get used to unlocked camera they won't get used to changing the camera all the time. Also even if all these problems weren't in place the advantage is so small it would change about nothing.

Also you have a 50/50 chance of being on both sides so you play just as much with the small advantage as without it.

THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY DISADVANTAGE AT ALL EVERY MATCH SHOULD BE ON EVEN FOOTING. Having a preset disadvantage is bullshit. Why should we have to settle for half of the game having an advantage and half of them be at a disadvantage its completely asinine when literally about 10 minutes of coding is all it take to allow for camera rotation on set axis.

You say it's the easiest, but Riot has stated several times that Summoner's Rift is designed to look good from only one side. It's easier on low-end computers to not have to render or calculate the back faces of the objects on the map, so most of them simply don't have back geometry. They'd have to literally remake the map from scratch (as they've said several times) to solve the issue.

I don't know about the new Summoners Rift but where the old Rift was concerned this was a strait up lie. There was a third party mod/hack that let you rotate the camera. The only things that didn't have a proper back was the grass and the signs near dragon/baron.

You can pretty easily find youtube video's of the hack if you're curious but I wouldn't recommend running it unless you want to get banned.

Perhaps. The new one, however, does not. This was stated many times in development.

funny how they stated it several times on the old map and it was a lie....they wouldn't lie to use about the same issue on the new map now would they, I mean surely they have show proof of this....statements are worthless its about facts and I bet you anything that the new map has full 3d models of everything just like the old map did and the difference would be hardly even noticeable.

You now those street artists that paint a canyon on the road? Summoner's Rift was made with the same principles.

Sure the basic geometry is there and when you turn it around you'll see something, but it will look weird and upside down in places, especially the details.

Not really. They're trying to optimize a new, higher-polygon, more cinematic map to run on the low-end machines that could support the older, less intense map. To do so requires a sacrifice somewhere: do you make the game perform worse for tens to hundreds of thousands of players, or do you sacrifice the ability to flip the map? For me (and for Riot) it seems the decision is obvious: keep the map issues (which people are largely accustomed to) until a better solution emerges and/or more of the low-end computers have been phased out, and allow the large number of players on low-end machines to keep playing without taxing their machines.

What if you just didn't enable "switching" camera angles, and you just played with whichever one matched your team? You'd still only have to load "front-facing" models, it would just change which side is the "front."

i also pout to myself when i end up on purple/red side ....especially if i am plying ranged.

The HUD thing is easy. Hide the bits of it you don't need, and shrink the rest.

Also, unlock your camera. By playing with a locked camera, you are crippling yourself by denying yourself map awareness.

The dragon/baron pit issue is a little harder to solve. Maybe fix it by taking both monsters out of their pits, and put them in the river, so that both teams have to come out into the open?

Rock Rockburgh1 votes

There should definitely still be a pit. However, I would be all for relocating the pits so that the river runs around them. Have entrances facing the sidelanes (or mid-- but just one or the other) and let people walk around to either side of them when moving between lanes. It'll slow down travel times a bit, but would almost totally eliminate the blue-side Dragon advantage. (Which I've actually never seen any evidence of-- would love it if someone could post some stats on that.)

If Riot won't do something as simple as let us ROTATE THE CAMERA then they should allow for Addons to do it for ourselves, I would rather have the gameplay be more fun than have a miserable time while looking at pretty scenery. I think everyone can sympathize with that sentiment wether you think purple side is at a disadvantage or not, I can't imagine anyone here likes getting curb stomped.

SexyTaylorSwift1 votes

I don't know. Personally, I haven't had a problem where I was like, man I would have won if I were on blue side. I think it is more so Riot's oddball matchmaking system, but that's just me. I know that the stats say blue side has an advantage, but I think having first pick plays a role into that. I think they could switch and give red/purple side first pick to see if that evens it out a bit. It would probably be the easiest and quickest test to run, compared to implementing a new camera system.

While we are on the topic, we just decide whether it is purple or red rito?

AbyssionKnight1 votes

You could just play with a hud mod. Then you can just rearrange the hud so it's in a position that's neutral for both sides.

There are probably mods that made the hud semi-transparent too, so you can see your info while also seeing the areas of the screen that the hud blocks.

Because riot doesn't care and they are lazy

asktiks1 votes

well ...

as for the camera/view handicap your suggestion is fine but hard to implement programmingwise, easier fix would be to allow players to display UI on the top side of the screen instead of bottom, just invert the positions of onscreen items it could work , though it would take getting used to

as for the dragon pit an easy fix too would be to make the walls of the dragon pit thicker/taller as to not allow either team to pick dragon or ward or whatever over the wall giving neither team an advantage
